If I played real Ironman as some of you guys are arguing, I would never get past the first two hours of the game. I save before every action where I need to commit a large chunk of my fleet for an extended period of time (e.g. Mark IV world). Also, before every action that will result in large AI counterattack (Counterattack posts, raid engines, alarm posts). If said action results in failure or unacceptable casualties (loss of homeworld assets, irreplacable units) I reload and don't do it. I'm just not that good at this game (or, games in general any more) to do Ironman of any kind.

For most of us mere mortals, the purpose of playing Ironman is to learn that "Losing is fun" :)

I think I would enjoy games, particularly strategy games, a lot more if I could learn to enjoy losing a fair fight.  But mostly I just savescum ;)

So was this something that might go in at some point (along with various achievements)? Or should we perhaps go make a mantis post and start whipping votes for it? It looks like something that might be interesting to play from time to time. Permadeath sounds scary until you try it out in a few games and realize that it's not terrible, just different.

I had to turn off golems for this very reason. I was too nervous to use them offensively, and I would reload every time I lost one in a defensive position. Now that I'm reliant upon a fleet that I know I can just rebuild, I am finishing games much faster and enjoying myself more.

Go forth and vote if you like it. (Remember, it would be optional, so don't be scared off by it!)

Just wanna answer to the op, I have not read the whole thread....

The game is to complex for me to know whats happening so something unexpected or not intented always happens. And by unexpected I mean, missunderstanding a tooltip or warning. Misstakes like missclicking your fleet to the other side of the galaxy, forgot about your golem and left it at a stupid place, accidently suicided with a fleet or golem with FRD or attack move adn so on is not really fun.
