Which combat style do you prefer?
« on: January 24, 2010, 12:26:14 am »
I personally can only play on F&D. Normal is simply too slow! I find that on normal I am waiting on my ships to carry out there orders more than I am thinking about their next orders, so it really makes the game feel like molasses for me.

Assuming this has something to do with the GOTM.  Does speed matter for scoring/rating conditions that don't involve the clock?  Is score for example affected by the speed?

I like F&D.  Perhaps those who like it slower can just use the pause?

The only things fast and dangerous changes are the speed of ships and the damage they do. So users who play F&D would probably finish games slightly faster.

F&D coupled with pause would allow the greatest range of speeds.  People who want slow can utilize the pause.  The faster speed will make the game accessible to those who don't have the time to put into a Normal speed game.

Alternatively, scouts seem to die a lot more in F&D, due to 4x the damage being applied to them while they are within tachyon range

Pro tip:  Ditch the scouts, use the force.  Next time your about to enter that wormhole, don't look at the screen, look deep inside and ask yourself, "Do I feel lucky?"

Normal for me. I prefer well thought out and long term strategy where ship movement and position is important. This is especially so with the slower ships, and I like having time to think and plan out my movements.
