Here's a topic where I'm going to post all the things I don't know which might be worth adding to the wiki.

To get us started: How do you clear mines?

How much of a unit needs to be covered by a forcefield to get its protection?

Some units have Mine Avoidance special ability. Use them I guess, or send some of those cheap tech 1 fighters first then the expensive stuff next  ;D

Great idea for a topic, Quitch!  I think this will be really helpful for everyone, so anyone who has questions please feel free to add to the list!

You know, you've made me realize that I need to show something visual to make it clear which ships are protected and which are not.  I've added that to my list, and will experiment to see what looks best.

TBone:  Your suggestion regarding the Mine Avoidance ability is a great way to get around the mines, but it won't clear them.  That's the only way to get past PermaMines if you ever encounter them, though, so that's a great note.  And sending in lots of fighters is one great way to do it (probably the simplest thing), but you can also use tachyon beam emitters of various sorts to do the job more cleanly). :)

What does the number in brackets next to AI progress mean? If it was mentioned in the tutorial I've forgotten :)

That's the current tech level of the AI, which is based on the AI Progress number itself.  That tech level is the minimum strength of any reinforcements to planets on the map (higher-level planets will still get higher-level reinforcements), and that's also the level of any ships that will be warping into your planets.  I'll add this to the wiki soon.

My AI progress in I was 30(III) which doesn't seem right, or is that a personality thing?

The only way that would be right is if you were playing against one of the "Technologist" AI types, which start at Mark III technology levels.  If it's a random AI type that you can't see, I can check that for you from your savegame if you're worried that's a bug.

Oh, bugger, I think that's an error.  I'll check on that and fix it, but no, they should not be doing that.

What's the difference between TBS pause and the other kind?

TBS pause basically keeps running the internal "turns" behind the scenes, and takes player commands and such, just preventing ships (and should be shots also) from moving, firing, etc.  This makes it so that you can place ships, adjust build queues, place flares, set attack targets, and do a lot of other things like that.  I'll add this to the wiki with more detail tomorrow, but basically this mode is probably what almost everyone would want to use for pausing (especially in multiplayer, when it comes to flares), except when you are wanting to send a desync report if one is needed...

The inner, filled ranges are for counter-shooters.  The fortress blocks incoming shots of some variety.  I'll add that to the wiki.

EMPs and nukes are in the missile silo, which is under the CONST tab of your command stations.
