I was able to activate LotS on Steam, even though it still isn't showing up in the steam store (as of this post that is).

Awesome! Worked for me as well. I believe LoTS is supposed to release on Steam today, so maybe they're getting the behind-the-scenes stuff done first.

And now it's up, at a 10% discount for LotS and a 50% discount on the base game.  No idea how long that's good for at this point, but at least it's finally available.

Sorry to burst your guys' bubble, but as of this post, Steam is still pushing out 4.021, despite Light of the Spire being sold. This is sort of a big problem.

The in-game updater still works fine, but yes, we're trying to figure out what happened (or, rather, what didn't).

Mine updated to some degree, but I haven't installed or run it through Steam lately, so I don't know if it's still the old version or not, but it was most definitely installing something.

I didn't realize steam activation was an option until just today. I'm unable to activate my original copy of AI-war on steam. (A copy I bought from the Arcen store) because it says my key is already registered with another account. I have never sent my key to anyone and the only two places its been is my hard drive and the original receipt email from Arcen. Has this happened to anyone else?

Edit: A quick search reveals that is has. Most likely a pirate keygen'd my key. great.

Yea, they not only keygen'd it but registered it in steam, which requires something like nerve.

You may be able to solve the problem by emailing valve's support explaining the situation and attaching your receipt from us.  If necessary we can look up the original purchase (since you bought it direct) and confirm it's association with the email address it was sent to.  But the receipt should be sufficient.

In the past that didn't work because they would say it was an issue for the vendor you bought it from, but more recently folks were getting success via sending their Impulse receipt, etc, so it's probably worth a shot.

Your situation is not hopeless! This thread on the Steam Forum for AI War should get you pointed in the right direction.

I hope this helps you get the situation resolved.

Thanks for the replies guys. Its nice to see valve's support staff in that thread. I'll see what I can do... not that I don't enjoy my stand alone copy but having it available in my steam list would be nice.

And thanks for the offer Keith, but I do still have my original reciept. I atached a screenshot of it to my support ticket.

People often call me heavy handed but if I worked for VALVe I'd ban anyones account found registering serials using keygens for what is basically theft. If they're willing to do this for a small indie developers product, are they more or less likely to be ripping off bigger releases from the bigger outfits (which are what pays the Steam bandwidth & employee salaries)?

Stuff like this incenses me no end. Usual justifications for so called "pirates" are 'there's no way to test the game out before I buy it!' well AI War has a 3 hour time limit on campaigns but there's no limit to the number of campaigns you can play so that's out the window. Or the old favourite 'DRM sucks & I don't want to infect my PC with it' well no DRM beyond a license key on AI War. It's plain & simple greed no matter which lofty ideals they try to use to justify it.
