The Steam version will now ask for the key on 3.0, actually -- this was sort of an oversight on my part, but it leads to a more unified binary and will hopefully cut down on confusion with new AI War customers through Steam, anyway (I got quite a few understandable questions about "Where do I enter the key it tells me I have to enter?").  So that's the base game key.  But, the expansion requires a different key that is entered on the settings window if you do get that.

Ah ok - I am sure you wrote that elsewhere in your many many many many many update threads, I have a hard time keeping up though :D. Will enter my key and play around w/ some of the new base game stuff and then try out the expansion for a bit. If I can swing some discretionary funds anytime soon ZR will be on top of my recreational purchase list.

Just so its known, i just unlocked with my (i guess i actually had one of the first serials?) on steam without problems, it patched and everything works flawless, the new music is awesome and.. hopefully not hurting any feelings here, much better, much less.. ehm, happy tunes, and much more moody tunes!

Besides that i hope the Release boosts sales for both games.

And 1 Question : While the game expansion has gotten new in-game achievements, are there any plans on adding them to the steam achievement list (or are they already on there?)

And while touched on music, birth of golems is definitely one of the more awesome tracks ;p

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that -- yes, registering license keys for The Zenith Remnant that have been purchased elsewhere does work with Steam.  And yes, the new achievements are on Steam also -- 3 for the base game, and something like 49 for the expansion.  Glad you like the new music!

Ah i was asking about Achievements because the Zenith store page doesn't list it as feature (these features really need to be updated to match the original games listed features otherwise its kinda confusing)

Actually, the store page doesn't list the achievements either ;p

You know the tab thats called

"Includes 178 Steam Achievements"
View Achievements here.. and so on

Might be worth to mention it on the store page that the addon also adds *new* achievements  ;D (Just saying) (You know how those achievement hunters are ;p)

Steam activated fine with the key I got when I pre-ordered the expansion from here, but Impluse actually won't accept my key. I have no idea what that is about since I know that you basically sent your whole key list to all the distributors. In any case just wanted to give you a heads up that something odd is going on.

Impulse does not support cross-registration of AI War -- that's a Steam-only feature.

I'm a bit confused, so apologies if this has been explained elsewhere.

I bought AI War on steam, but I've installed it twice on my computer, once as a steam app and once with the Arcen installer.  That way I could keep the non-steam version up to date with all the prerelease code and not have to worry about steam crankiness.  (Also that way I can turn off steam when I get mad at it's copy protection being uphappy with network flakiness)

If I buy the expansion in steam, will I get an expansion key that I can use for my non-steam copy of the game as well?  Or will the expansion only be playable from the steam version of the game?

When you buy the game, or the expansion, what you are really buying is the /key/. Not the game.. silly.

The key works to unlock the game from most any distributor - so yeah, it will work.

I understood it was a key, I just wanted to make sure that I got a key that could be used outside of Steam.

You bet!  No matter where you buy one of our games from, you will always get an Arcen key for the game so that you can unlock our fully DRM-free version if something happens.

In the case of Steam, you're getting a Steam key and an Arcen key.

Good i plan on getting this game for the new computer I'm hooking up, this means the porformance will be a lot smoother but i found out that if i play the game on 40 planets, it runs fairly smooth on my laptop

Unfortunately, this, too, has been causing some confusion amongst users. One person in IRC and also a friend of mine were having trouble getting the game to unlock properly, saying it wouldn't accept their key. For the next version, the game should probably be more clear about what key is expected in what place. I think that'd avoid people trying to use their expansion keys to unlock the base game. The unlock for expansions is also a little hidden, so maybe there's a way to make that more obvious for people.

Hmm, that's unfortunate that there's confusion.  You'd think that with this having been in use for 3 months now, that would have come up before the official release.  But, so it goes.  Definitely good to consider for the next release.
