Getting ships to *not* shoot things?

Okay, so, current game, I need to get something into a certain system, right?  Supposed to be stealthy.  Except that the AI has conveniently stationed some stuff right next to the wormhole, and the instant I send something in.... it makes an ass of itself and starts firing at otherwise dormant ships.  With exactly the expected results.  Dies stupidly, adds about a zillionty to the threat counter, because derp.  I kinda want to rebuild the damn thing just so I can blow it up by scrapping it, as punishment for being so bloody stupid.

As usual, the game doesnt tell me how to stop it from making an idiot of itself or even hint at the ability to do such a thing.  It's actually been a fairly frequent problem, and searching through the endless maze of control options isnt giving any answers.

IS there a way to do this?  It'd really help alot if there is.

Select your ships and press K or click the pause button to put them into the stand down mode.

Ahaaaa, of COURSE the answer is super simple and was probably obvious somehow.  Bah.  This game would be easier to learn if I wasnt so spacey all the time.

Thanks for the answer though, that should help alot.
