Wiki details
« on: March 02, 2010, 12:45:01 pm »
I've used the wiki fairly frequently when I started playing, but there is one thing that's always kind of bothered me about it, and that's that it doesn't give basic information.  The wiki doesn't maintain a list of AI types or structure and ship types.  Technically the community section has an over the top huge breakdown of lots (but not all ships), but it would be cool if there was a section that simply had a basic list of what ships and structures do with a rough breakdown on its abilities (ex: this ship is high hp, fast, ignores tractors, and good against frigates).   The only way to find out right now is to find it in game and read the tool tip, which is often times too late in cases of raid engines, alarm posts, etc.  There are some things that I've seen mentioned on the wiki that I've never ever heard an explanation of, like say, the Omega Drive.

I second this.

Perhaps to this end, Arcen could open all of (or at least most of) the wiki to editing by the community? Allowing the community to contribute could offload a lot of the work from Arcen Games staff. If you're concerned about too many bogus edits, you could mitigate the concern somewhat by restricting it to only allow people with forum accounts to edit pages.

Well, this is just the sort of thing the community wiki is for, it's open already -- players are welcome to do this.  For my part, the wiki is a higher-level guide and errata set, all of the basic ship info is in-game (and would take far too long for me to duplicate manually into the wiki).  But I'd love to see growth of the community wiki, and this seems like a very valuable way for it to do so.  Really, this is just the sort of thing the community wiki is for.

I had tried to edit some of the pages before from the main wiki and couldn't, and didn't realize there was a whole other section. Scratch my false request, then :)
