What if it could regenerate AI ships, becoming the parasite golem?
You are all insane. In. Sane. No argument.

One idea I suggested (though not specifically for the Regen Golem) was the Reverse Attritioner.
Vampirism would also be good.

Parasitism sounds fun, especially if it partly ignored reclamation immunity, but would probably cause the Botnet Golem to file a patent infringement suit (i.e. role overlap).

First thing first: get the cost down...mc cost as much as a botnet, but much less powerful? Bad idea...

Perhaps it could repair other ships , regardless of supply and not sacrificing its own hitpoints, and have small to medium range weapons to hold off a moderate amount of enemy ships. It could fulfill a support role for your fleet and act as a rally point while on the offensive.

What if it could Regenerate itself, temporarily coming back as A MASSIVE UNSTOPPABLE OVERPOWERED LICH-MONSTER OF DOOM!

Yeah, I'm fresh out of ideas.

I'd like to avoid seeing Karthas in court.  Wouldn't want to hear his Closing Argument.

Wow, that was a lot of non-consensus. At least everyone agreed it needs a buff. Time for my favorite solution: warheads a poll.

Options will include:

Cost decrease
Normal repair ability
Health buff
Weapon buff
Regen AI ships
Vampirism
Radar dampening
Unstoppable lichdom

It will go up in a few hours, if you want more options, post here. If you are too late, I will try to add them directly to the poll, though this will require nagging Keith.

If warheads can't solve it, use more warheads.

How many max votes per person? Two seems reasonable, but maybe three.

For the "Regen AI ships" option, that should probably be "Regen enemy ships as mine" or something like that, to indicate that it "takes" the dead ship and puts it under the Regen golem's owner's control.

BTW, would the "captured" ships be Zombies, or normal? If normal, should it be allowed to "capture" past normal caps?

No maximum. Each issue would be a yes-or-no.

Normal, can capture past ship caps (up to double the cap) unless a coding nightmare would ensue.
If warheads can't solve it, use more warheads.

I like the proposition that instead of recreating ships it would use it's own health to repair all ships and structures in some radius with it's own health regardless of if they are in combat or not.
