Question about FRD

Is there a way to put my ships in FRD, but keep them in a formation?  When i build the FRD military control node, all my ships split up in 40-50 directions and never attack together.  They tend to die a lot, and thus puts a strain on resources, especially in the beginning the game.  When they aren't in FRD, they tend not to go after targets unless they come into range, and if they leave range they just sit here, which doesn't work very well either.  Is there a solution to this without manually paying attention to a fleet of ships all the time?  If not, may I make a suggestion of adding a control node to allow your ships in FRD to stay in formation?

Nope, there's no such feature, and there likely never will be because of the nature of FRD.  Ships are making decisions based on the swarm intelligence, and that's fundamentally incompatible with formations.  It would have to be a completely new mechanic with a completely new premise for that to work, unfortunately.  If we do some stuff later with having ships guard a larger ship, etc, then that might solve it -- putting the central ship on FRD, and the other ships follow it around, etc.  But that's the only way I can really think of to approach that sort of issue at the moment.
