Xbox Live Arcade
« on: November 18, 2009, 08:37:59 pm »
I'm new to this forum and game having only watched some videos after learning about it through Co-Optimus. Currently downloading the demo through steam.

I of course am not certain how big this game is and wether the controls are too complicated for consoles but the company might consider Xbox Live Arcade release. It's a sure way to get to a bigger audience.

I myself own a PC but many of my friends do not and we really love playing co-op games over Xbox Live and this seems like a game we could enjoy for a long time. Has there been any talk of other platforms then PC?

To be honest, there's no way the XBox could run AI War just from a processing standpoint past a certain point, but the game also very much requires a mouse.  It's a hardcore PC strategy game, and so we're not planning on porting it elsewhere (other than hopefully the Mac/Linux) at the moment.  But, look for other future titles of ours to appear on the 360 and potentially other consoles. :)

Thanks for your interest in the game!

I spent way to long into the night playing this, what an addictive game, and I'm just in the trial. I'm definatly buying this. Too bad I can't play with my friends though   :(

Glad you're enjoying it!  Sorry about your friends, but if they are interested in PC Games at all, there might well be a capable PC already in their homes; they may not regularly use it for gaming, but it might work quite well for AI War.  Always a possibility to check, anyway!

Two of them have Apple, one has his PC at school all time and must of them just don't like the hassle that comes with PC's especially when playing online. It's much better today then what it was a few years back but they like the "plug and play" feature of the consoles, too bad many great games seem to only exist on PC, simulators and such wich I love the most.

There is no way i'd play a strategy game on a console, and even less if it was a game that took 6-16 hours to complete :P
I love my 360, but not a single strategy game has ever worked well enough to justify NOT getting that game for the pc instead.

There are java-based virtual systems (one of my personal favorites is virtual box http://www.virtualbox.org/) where if they have a copy of windows handy they could install it into a virtual environment - there is a free version of Windows XP called ReactOS (http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html) which looks promising but it's taking FOREVER to be developed. It's currently in alpha stages but from what I've seen on their site it can run games like Unreal Tournament 99, Deus Ex, and a good few others so it SHOULD run AI War fairly well. Linux has a non-emulator way of running windows apps called WINE and I'm sure MAC has some equivalent as well. Not sure how well AI War will run in those but it's worth a try. :)

Oh and I refuse to play any form of strategy game on console (except tile based ones such as Shining Force or Advance War since they are pretty simple on controls) and shy away from shooters as well...... Now if consoles had a keyboard/mouse combo to play with I'd be more inclined to do so, still it'd be iffy at best if any of'em could run AI War when things really get nuts.

well.....Two things:
 * This is legit, it's a bunch of developrs trying to make a free windows clone so people don't have to use a paid version
 * i tried it, and, well... good luck! it had enough problems starting most of the time, and wasn't really functional once booted.
Avid League player and apparently back from the dead!

If we weren't going for your money, you wouldn't have gotten as much value for it!

Oh, wait... *causation loop detonates*

Well yeah i know but they are trying to make it exactly like XP so for simplicity it's 'the free xp' heheh as far as it's stability i never used it yet (waiting for it to go beta before i give it a spin...course by then windows 18.49 will be out lol) still if one doesn't have a copy of windows handy or the means to acquire a copy its the best alternate I can think of offhand.

If you own a computer but cant get hold of a standard most-commonly-supported operating system, well, maby computers arent for you  :P
Not trying to be mean, just honest. Besides, i think WinXp is one of the most easily availible applications on the internet, much to the dread of microsoft of course.
