How to issue special move orders from factory?
« on: December 12, 2010, 03:06:29 am »
I know how to set a rally point with V or X to have the ships produced enter a specific mode, but is there a way to have the rally point put ships into auto-explore mode?

Seeing that you can only give the auto-explore command to scouts, and ship builders are most certainly not scouts, yea, I don't think you can.

Eyebots, as well.

EDIT: Oh, hes not saying give the shipbuilder the auto-explore command, just the ships it produced.

I want to set up a space dock that'll fire a stream of scouts out and then have the scouts immediately enter into auto-explore mode. It's possible to set up a space dock that'll give constructed units a move order, attack-move order and FRD mode-move order but not an auto-explore move order from what I've been able to tell.

I'm aware that space-docks themselves can't enter FRD mode or auto-explore mode as they're stationary and unarmed, and not every ship it produces can enter FRD mode (scouts can't, or if they can it's useless for them as they have no weapons) or auto-explore, yet you can still set a rally point that causes ships to enter FRD mode.

I'm asking if there's a similar order for auto-explore, but the answer so far seems to be no :(

youngling commandos also gather scout intel, and I think can be issued auto-explore. unfortunately, auto-explore puts them in frd for some reason..

alternatively

should scouts set to frd auto-explore?

I find auto explore to be relatively useless anyway because if you issue the command to a group of scouts, they all go into a different direction and die instead of all choosing one path together for the best results. This always ends in them only making it 1 or 2 planets deep before getting blown away, and thus being pretty useless. MKIV Scouts are the only ships I would feel comfortable using this command with, and only because they are immune to detection.
