They're the same as usual?  Nothing has changed with regards to their AI (unless I missed something), so...
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

I actually put in a pretty significant change a few versions ago to prevent them from throwing their lives away on the human player's behalf, but I guess you're still seeing the usual occasional friendly enclave pop up and flit off to its doom :)

If you mean prior to maybe two or three patches ago, probably so.  If they were within these two recent patches, then I haven't had the chance to test.

Last time I saw one suicide was the screenshot in the first post.

I played with enclaves once.... and never felt like playing with them again after that lol. I lost a difficulty 1 game because of them :D
about 500 of them were going after my home command station and it died pretty quick while my main fleet was 8 hops away. So I loaded the previous save and build a bunch of forcefields around my cammond station... that bought my ships enough time to hop in and save the day.
