Spire Tractor Platforms *cry*
« on: November 17, 2010, 10:41:59 pm »

I just lost a game, maybe 40 odd minutes into it, because i had nothing that can stop these guys:

A Mk2 does 8,400x41 => 344,400 damage per attack.
A Mk3 does 12,600x61 => 732,000 damage per attack.

Problems:

1. They annihilate turrets within seconds.
2. They annihilate everything else pretty much aside from bombers
3. The AI doesn't mind sending 40 of these + other stuff for waves
4. Bombers don't seem to prioritize these units at all instead they will go for things like other bombers, and fighters.
5. Hull Type of turret? No turrets have a bonus against this?
6. "Bristling with small guns?" uhhh...

=*(

Whoa, that's not right!  It was supposed to be 800, not 8400!  Nice catch, I was very tired when I did that last night.  ;)

Now I feel torn.

I have a seed up with spire tractor platforms as a starting homeworld option. Do I refuse to update so I can experience  10x strength spire tractor platforms at least once or do I wait for the update so I won't ruin my expectations. :(

Yeah..

I just demolished the AI by picking 4 starting homeworlds, and wandered around the galaxy with my fleet of stealth spires and spire tractor beams.

The only thing that hurt was the fortresses.

seeing how starships recently had 2x cost boost, it seems like the spire ships are now very cheap

41x800 is still redonkulous damage  ;D

Tractor Platforms are actually fleet ships... but I agree. Spire Starships, particular frigates, are too cheap atm.

the biggest advantage of them being fleet ships is that their shipcap jumps upto 5 if played with large shipcaps, which means for 7500K you can unlock MK II & MK III for the ability to build a doom train of 15 spire starships

Of course he inflates numbers! He calls himself "x4000" for a reason!  ;)
Time travel in the classic sense has no place in rational theory, but temporal distortion does exist on the quantum level, and more importantly it can be controlled.
