Spire Stealth battleship
« on: October 10, 2011, 11:01:00 am »
Recently playing a high ship cap game and I picked the stealth battleship. All well and good until I noticed I only got 5 of them.. As opposed to the enhanced cap of any other ship cap I could have picked. Is this intentional? I know the ship in question can be pretty strong unit but hey, that is a pretty low ship count..

Actually most of the feedback I remember about them after their last rebalancing is that they're _too_ strong due to a single unit with 1/5th-of-a-cap of a normal unit's worth of HP (somewhere in that ballpark) and dps and such being generally more powerful than that number of normal units

I would love to have them diluted a bit. Liked the ship but so much concentrated stuff in a single ship makes them fair game for the spire hammer I am fighting, and spire rams... And many other super high kill you stuff. Was hoping to offset it by having the strength of their ship spread out amongst many instead of a select few.

If you want a more diluted ship, there are plenty of others to choose from, imo. Focused ships like this one are pretty rare and changing that would make them even more rare for people who actually like them.

You can actually see the ship cap when you select your planet in the map seed. You're suggesting to change something because you missed that or because you "don't really like it like this". I find this extremely silly.

I know its focused.. But I picked out high ship capacity which increases the ship cap on all types of ships. Just thought it would have been the same with the spire battleship, but it stays at 5. Just like normal cap size and low cap size. Never being modified as every other ship is. In terms of damage/cost/health. So 5 of them will fight 44 fighters on low, and 5 of them will grind 196 fighters on high ship capacity.

The small-cap ships don't scale with the cap scale, since the rounding would nail them pretty bad and since there's no big performance difference between 1 SSB and 5 SSB's.

The ships that do scale (like fighters) have their hp and attack power adjusted accordingly.

So 1 cap's worth of SSBs will fight roughly the same vs 44 Low-cap MkI fighters as they will against 196 High-cap MkI fighters.

Didn't know that about the small cap scale not really touching the already low-cap ships. Learn something new everyday. But wouldn't the advantage favor high cap for the stealth battleship just due to it being able to kill enemy ships faster and thus reduce enemy damage output quicker. Instead of the more spike based damage loss that having the fighter concentrated and thus taking longer for the battleship to nom on, or would it be about equal due to the ability for you to order all your battleships to focus fire?

The balance won't be exactly the same, no, but close enough.   And it kind of cuts both ways: the higher-cap fighters probably "waste" more of the SSB's dps on last-shots.

Also spire mini-rams are a bit OP by themselves and they will significantly reduce meaning of anything large currently. Especially when speed/attack boosted.
Using SB's vs AI that has mini-rams can feel like throwing resources away a bit... At least I had that with starships and mini-rams.

Ah the irony of someone bringing up the mini-rams.. my current battleship game I talked about in first post includes them as ais unlock. The battleships were not pleased. But use them I will. >.<
