Train Master AI Difficulty

Are these the sort of units that a Easy AI Type should be using?

The types of trains available are, IIRC, dictated only by the plot intensity itself- although I see where you're coming from.

I was wondering when someone would mention the dastardly Supply-Interdictor.  Last time I checked, there wasn't a word about them anywhere on the wiki or these forums, even though Keith gave us great detail about all the other trains and what intensity they spawn on.  I presume the omission was entirely intentional  ;)

If the goal was to make the players hate the Astro Trains then job well done. I haven't had them enabled since they were updated.

I don't remember when I had any fun with trains.
Tried once or twice in previous incarnation, then with next incarnation. And each time they are so annoying that they get skipped on next round. And they aren't really killable plus they re-spawn constantly.

I enjoyed trains the first time I tried their current incantation, at quite a high intensity (8 I think).  They added a DF-like level of chaos and unpredictability I enjoyed.  But a couple of things about them became a bit annoying, such that I didn't want to play with them again:
  • Tachyon trains make you keep having to replace Scout pickets
  • Tractor/Widow trains that spawn in the same group as auto-targetted trains mean you basically can't leave defenders on Ctrl-V mode, as they swoop in to destroy the Cargo Train or whatever and end up getting tractored away.

I liked the changes, but they were unplayable on low intensity settings.

At a setting of 2/10 "give me a flavor enhancer" the train plot itself became more important than the homeworld assault.  Because the only thing that spawed were cargo trains.

And with only 3 stations in the galaxy, none of them passed through my systems.

And when I blew 2 of them up, they were instantly delivering their goods....

Yea, until astro trains can get a balance pass/overhaul, I would say Train Master is a medium or possibly even hard level AI (depending on what the minimum intensity for the plot in terms of astro train types availible)

Just FYI, nuclear and emp trains do not spawn except at high intensities now, thankfully.

In a recent game that I finally manage to win. Astro train was on and the only train stations were behind my "Fallen Spire defend line in captured territories" which made them a joke with respect to "delivering" cargo.

Trains are one of my never-use options, for various reasons (mostly the fact that they're often pretty much impossible to kill.

Also, few things in AI War are quite as annoying as having your fleet positioned at a wormhole, ready to move in... and then a Tractor/Widow Train jumps in and choo-choos away with half your fleetships in tow.
