Spire ram bug
« on: January 28, 2011, 10:11:26 pm »
According to the info box, the spire minirams sould commit suicide upon attacking. However it seems instead, they simply take damage.

I cant tell whether the box or the behavior is at fault in this case.

Can anyone confirm?

Actually, this is a oddity of all "suicide" units. Suicide units only take damage proportional to the amount of damage actually inflicted, which is often not enough to insta-kill them.

Almost all self damaging melee ships need an update to their tooltips in that regard.

This is not true for something like autobombs - autobombs do not have high enough damage to kill themselves through self-damage, but do autodestruct on attack.

This (the spire rams) is one case where the description is right and the behavior is wrong, I think.  This is probably due to some buffs I gave it health-wise fairly recently; I tried to increase the self damage in the same proportion but apparently that was insufficient.

Ah. So MK-IV Rams sitting on my home command center for a minute or so gradually killing themselves AND my command station while I sit helpless is not exactly the intended function.

... Are modifiers being applied to self damage? And armor subtractions? >.>

Seriously recently experienced this. Bout 8-10 of them I think. Took them a damn while but was very early game and nothing I could do to stop em xD... My own fault for pissing off a MK-IV world to some degree but lol.

In this regard I just love those tracktorbeam Spire ships, keep 100 units locked untill they kill the unit and effectivly commit suicide :D

I'm somewhat worried that shouting over skype or steam voice chat about sending in the martyrs and killing in as many as possible might get me on some watchlists... ;)

Maybe we should rename them to the "Spirecraft Defensive Compassionate Invaders" ;D
