Any time I talk to friends about SC2, it's all about the RPG aspects and nothing about combat.

IMO, the combat was/is clunky and horrifying. I leave it on auto and never touch it after that.

I was an extremely hardcore SuperMelee player.  Every once in a while I wish that a well-developed online one-on-one combat remake would appear, but I feel like I'm in the minority; Any time I talk to friends about SC2, it's all about the RPG aspects and nothing about combat.

Does anyone other than me *really* like SuperMelee?

I'm a big time SC2 fan - it's one of my all-time favorite games, but sadly forgotten these days.  It's not set up on this site, but I use an Orz as my avatar on other sites.   [Edit: added it here now as well]

I never played Ur Quan Masters, though - I thought it wasn't finished, and the effort had died.  Is it actually done?

I loved the SuperMelee combat.  My friend and I used to have some great battles side by side on the same keyboard playing Star Control and Star Control 2.  My favorite ships:
Androsnyth Guardian
Orz Nemesis
Spathi Eluder
Thraddash Torch

I've had UQM on my Android for quite a bit. Been playing it on and off. It's certainly very fun and well made.

Did Star Control 2 have the same storyline as Urquan Masters? Or was Urquan literally SCII - 2?
The source code for the 3DO version was released under GPL so it's a direct copy of the original just updated to run on modern systems. They had to name it something else because Star Control is a trademark but other than that it's no different.

Will have to look for that Android version myself.

I loved supermelee myself almost as much as the 'main' SC2 game.

As for ships, I tried to make them all work, but I loved the Spathi Eluder, Zoq-Fot-Pik Stinger, Kohr-Ah Maruader, and the Orz Nemesis the most.

Don't forget to *Enjoy the sauce*  ;)

I checked out the game, and it was pretty awesome, reminds me of overlord on the NES.

I honestly like the human cruiser, of course that's the only ship I'm able to build......

I guess I'm in the minority of people that never played SC2 but really enjoyed SC3. Something about SC3 really clicked with me. Maybe it was the only-half-serious politics storylines between the races, or the planet/fleet development, or the mystery solving, but I really got into it and have played through it several times.

SC1 was one of my all time favorite early DOS games, but I did not have the hardware to play SC2 when it came out, so I never got around to playing it.
Time to roll out another ball of death.

You should try it, there is a serious difference from what I hear. Again, I havent played SC3, maybe Ill download it and give it a shot. As far as I know the storyline is all Non Canon as far as fans go and wotnot. Toys for Bob said if they ever made another game it would be a sequel to SCII not SCIII.

Ironically enough, I just bought that game for my NES a few weeks ago. ;D
