Well,  it seems I solved it by violently purging my registry in addition to completely removing the AI:War folder after uninstalling (thus removing my profile and saves). Could it possibly have been a corrupted profile or something? Because now it started just fine after reinstalling.

Also "Refusing to start" was simply a frozen white screen and "Fatal error in gc: Too many heap sections" and then nothing more. But as I said, removing my profile (the AI:War folder) solved it on reinstall.

I use ESET on Windows x64.
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

That is super odd.  Do you happen to have your old profile still around so you can test with it?  Is it in the recycle bin?  If you have a profile that causes GC errors, we'd definitely love to get our hands on that to fix it.  But please don't post settings.dat files in public, as they include your license key.

Glad it's working for you again, at least!

I've not checked Mantis yet so forgive me if it's already there but I think the Xs in the checkboxes on all the settings pages need to be more visible before v4.0. It's a minor niggle but it niggles my minors something proper!

What about them is not visible? They are both color-coded, and larger than the ones on the SlimDX side, which makes me really uncertain what the complaint is.

Is it only the settings.dat you want, or any more files? I can sprend it and privately send you the link.

EDIT: HOLY SMOKES! Yeah, it's definately a corrupted profile. My current settings.dat is less than 3kb, while the "corrupted" one is over 8 Mb. xD

They're slightly low contrast. You see them, but they could be darker to increase the contrast. I think that's what he's trying to say.

Just found a showstopper of my own, that had been reported and I fixed it and now its back:

When shift-placing turrets it keeps placing them as long as you hold the button down, leading to way more tractor turrets around that wormhole than you intended ;)

Wow, that's crazy -- and awesome that you found it.  Can you send that to me?  chrispark7 at gmail dot com.

Sent. Hope you find the reason for the error. I had an error (too bad I can't remember now) where the game crashed and froze up on me, so I killed it with taskman. After that, it would simply not start, for obvious reasons :D

That. This. "Visible" definitely wasn't the right word. I see them just fine but looking at them kinda hurts my eyes. It's possible it's a red-green colour blindness thing.

Maybe I just need to adjust the contrast on my eyes...

Oh, wait, I just tested this in the SlimDX version and it does it too.  This is the intended behavior :)  Moral of the story: when placing multiple turrets, don't hold shift between the clicks...  I will check the timing, though, to make sure it's waiting sufficiently.

I'd personally see you removed that. It's annoying as hell having a whole bunch of turrets plop down while you look for a new spot to click.

Hm, what?  I thought that was what it was supposed to do--if you're holding shift and hold mouse1, it should continue to build turrets in groups of five, unless you mean solely holding shift = placement.
