An interface to control power/energy supply is needed
« on: June 06, 2011, 02:56:32 pm »
As well polished this game is, managing the amount of power you have is really not that well thought out. Or rather, it lacks a good interface.

First of all, I can't directly see how many Mark III power plants I've built on the galaxy. Or rather, I can't see at all how many power plants I've built all in all.

So say, I have a 200 000 excess power, and I remember I had a Mark III power plant made somewhere. I have to manually skim through each planet on the galaxy view to see which one has 3 energy reactors. And then, I have to pick energy reactors from the list, pick Mark III energy reactor and put stop in it. Now I have 110 000 Excess power. I then need to manually turn off many of some of the mark II energy reactors which is really tedious micromanagement that I'd rather use for something else.

Just make a simple interface from the CTRLS view where you'll be able to turn off Energy reactors at will without the need to manually visit each and every planet.

There is the power reactor button at the bottom of the screen that separates all your reactors based on their mark.  If you left click on a reactor the screen centers on it, if you shift click then the reactor is then put in low power mode.  (Not sure on the exact controls, my fingers know 'em, my brain doesn't)

It also has a list of low power reactors that could be turned on in the same way.

Though it would be nice to have automatic power plants, in the same vein as the resource converters.

Yea, the manual galaxy-wide energy controls are basically already there; I'm sure there are things people want added, but that's always true ;)

I don't use the Galaxy View filters a whole lot but I seem to remember being able to display how many reactors you have per planet there also.

Yea, I think you can also use the Find feature for each of the Energy Reactor types to see if you have any planets missing a specific mk.

Thanks, this helps a lot already. I think this is decent enough, never even noticed there were buttons down there.
