Question About Orbital Command Stations
« on: June 30, 2009, 11:26:32 pm »
While looking at an orbital command station of mine, I couldn't help but notice "Warp Gate (Reinforce Only)."  Is this AI only, or is there some way to reinforce my own ships that I am unaware of?

That's an AI specific ability. The players can only gain new ships by constructing them at space docks or reclamation via parasites.

Good luck against the AI!

A pity.  It would be helpful, especially considering the new wormhole garrisons that spawn fifty some-odd ships every ten minutes. Ah well.

Not sure if it should show up on human command stations, though.  It's misleading.

All ships that can be used by both the AI and the humans have the same abilities noted.  This is by design, so you can quickly hover over one of your ships to see what the abilities of corresponding enemy ships are.

In other news, games started with the upcoming 1.009B will have the wormhole reinforcements toned down a bit. :)

Would there be any way to implement some means of differentiating between normal abilities and AI-only ones?  It would be nice for newer players to have that made clear.

Glad to hear that the wormhole reinforcements have been toned down a bit. :)

I've played several cases where the AI orbital command stations are literally overflowing with reinforcements to the point that there are ships that repeatedly move to the center of the station radius and then back out again.  Do you think it would be beneficial to increase the radius to accommodate new reinforcements or perhaps even introduce a cap to the maximum number of ships within the radius?

Thanks!

This is a great point!  I'll add a little "AI" prefix in front of the AI-only ones.

Yeah, I think it was needed. :)

Yeah, this is a really tricky one, because having the radius be much larger also has some other implications for how the AI defends itself.  But I'll take a look at this again, and see if I can't get it to be a little bit larger.  I don't really want to impose a top-level cap on the number of ships, since that's hard to calculate based on the size of all the ships, their positions, and what else is nearby and perhaps taking up space but not attached to the command station.  Thanks for the suggestions!  I think that increasing the radius slightly will probably do the trick, but we'll see how it goes once that's out.
