"Scouts and Missiles" Galaxy Filter
« on: April 13, 2015, 05:50:37 am »
Milk, eggs, flour, sugar, nuclear bayonet, ...

What's the point with scouts AND missiles? And what the "missile" part is for? Warhead? Why not saying warhead, then? And why packing them with scouts? In the mind of who scouts and W.M.D. are part of the same strategic move?!? (Gandhi, maybe...)

And that problem wouldn't be that strange if the filter actually showed scouts AND warheads on the galaxy map. I only use lightning warheads from a few time (my first 8/8 tries, actually) and I never needed to track the position of my W.M.D. before. (Also, the fact that I may loose track of a warhead says long on my playstyle. :-[)

I was on the top of making a mantis post, but I though maybe I missed something.

Yeah the missiles in that filter does mean warheads.

I use it a good bit because I often lose track of scouts ( from spying on nearby enemy worlds to actual exploration) or I like a quick overview of where my lightning warhead stockpile is. I often build a missile silo for most of my planets and queue up different warheads for each...so this has been helpful to me.

Also, sometimes I will have fleet redirectors on my planets...which if I send a lightning warhead to one of them, it will get redirected. So this thing is useful for tracking them down too.

Anyways, what would you put a mantis up for on this?

Ah, my post was unclear, indeed. I meant that for me the warhead filter doesn't display warheads. I need to check it twice if you say it works...

So I just checked it out.

My galaxy filter is on "scouts and missiles", I have one missile of each kind (MkI only) on a planet with no scouts on it: the galaxy map display scouts around but nothing on the planet with the missiles.

The fact that the filter say missile for warhead is confusing. (Well, the silo is called "missile silo", but all it build is called "[something] warhead" (unles the EMP))
The fact that the filter combine scouts and missiles is weird. (Mal-level weird on my weird-o-meter)
But this is a bug.

You say the filter works for you? What in the galaxy makes my game refusing to display my warheads?

<whistles innocently>

I was going to try to make a joke about that, and then I realized... >,>  <,< it's true... Cloaker + Scoutstars to boost cloak + Warhead(s) == perfectly normal flow of unit collecting in my games...

In that light, I think this grouping is perfectly logical and am A-OK with it staying how it is.  :P

Also wish I had noticed that filter yesterday as I had a moment while chasing a carrier flock around the galaxy where I was flipping furiously through my planets muttering to myself, "Where did I put that sixth bloody Lightning Warhead?!" (At least it wasn't a Nuke I momentarily lost.)

I'll have to give it a try and see if it works ok for me.  (The filter, I mean... not the warheads.  ;) )

I confirm, warheads work for you! (As it does for all the AI I met since now.)
Oh, you meant the filter? Sorry!
:P

Good thing you forgot to blow up the Warhead Interceptor guarding my server core first!  ;D

Now it's my turn!   >D

/slight derail

PS -- Expect to see many colorful demonstrations of why I agree with this filter grouping and practical application of said reasoning in Aggressive Stupidity II, which should start going up in the second half of this week -- that match is just about to reach its end (death or victory?).  There is a screenshot I am intensely looking forward to posting that contains something so horrible it may get a laugh/pitying groan out of even the most battle-hardened veteran players on this board.  The planned solution definitely involves a number of nukes that is greater than zero.
