Saving ships?

Do you ever like keep your wittle cute ship that you reclaimed and cannot construct under precious protection?( i do) or do you see no future for this thing and takes it to every regular battle?

I only horde in the early game when they're high tier and I might need the extra ships to break thru a strong planet.
