Rtsnet dead?
« on: October 19, 2011, 10:35:02 pm »
So, it seems rtsnet is no longer an irc server? I'm confused..

Like, their website is no longer an actual website... They had a website at some point..

:( what to do!

Whoops, looks like they cancelled their site!  Maybe they'll be back -- some sort of lapse.  I'd have thought we'd have seen something if they were shutting down for good.

EDIT: Looks like their domain name just expired: http://www.enom.com/whois/default.aspx?DomainName=Rtsnet.org

Let's give it a few days, they might well be back from the looks of it, if that was an oversight.

He didn't mention it, but that's fine with me.  At some point we need to set up our own IRC server for this anyhow, so that we can integrate it into the game.  We looked into some stuff like that, but $40/month is more than I want to take on expense-wise right at the moment.  Hopefully rtsnet comes back and can act as a stopgap again for a while, until we later get into our next dev cycle and take the whole IRC thing to the next level.

I swear it was an accident! I just wanted to see if the /msg chanserv register #aiwar command would work! :p

Annywayy... I havent really seen rtsnet go down for this long :(

I had no idea that gun was loaded, officer! ;)

No worries at all.  And yeah, I've not seen rtsnet go down for this long, either; their DNS expired, so if they notice and pay up in the next day or so they'll be right back.  If they don't notice, or they let it expire on purpose, then I guess that site's dead.  But they didn't just take down the site forcibly or anything, which is what I'd have expected if they were really trying to take it down.  Instead it just plain expired, which makes me think it might have been an oversight.  I guess we'll see..

RTSnet merged a while back with AppliedIRC, which seems to be the main branding now. You should still be able to connect via irc.appliedirc.com 6667. The arcengames.com IRC chat page should probably be updated to reflect this change.

As for channel ownership, for some reason, my account and the channel both became unregistered at some point. This probably had something to do with the merger, though it happened sometime after the merger, which was a ways back. *shrugs* It's in good working shape at the moment, anyway, and not a problem, as far as I'm concerned.

Wicked!

That is really great news that they aren't dead, but rather just merged.  I went ahead and got the website page updated, and the java applet is working again and everything.  So all seems to be well now! :)

appliedirc has a more useful website - Including chat logs of the channel going back apparently quite a ways o.0
