Roaming Enclaves can bite me

That is all.

But seriously, do they ever actually attack the AI? I've never seen it. Probably because the ones that do get wiped out very quickly.

Also, do the Preservation Wardens ever attack the AI? Probably not, since the AI doesn't make use of the resource patches. What are the actual rules for when they show up and how they choose their targets?

Anyway, I'm disabling both of these guys on my next game, along with the devourer golems.

At the moment I think they don't attack the AI, but Keith would know for sure.

They are indeed intended as a very challenging, vicious sort of mode for players that want that challenge.  Various players like them, and I can see the appeal, but I don't play with them in any of my games either. ;)

As the tooltip says, some attack everyone while some only attack players. The ones that attack everyone have a knack for showing up on your turf with minimal damage from the AI though.

Yea, those are enemy-to-all and are not destined to be long in this world ;)  The others are AI-ally.

Heh, nice to know the preservation guys give you a little break to start with.

Anyway, yeah, I have enough trouble dealing with the endless AI assaults without random jerks coming in and blowing (irreplaceable) stuff up in my rear echelon. I did mean "Mining Golem" instead of "Devourer Golem" though. I love the Devourer, he's my (very abusive) best friend and keeps the AI ranks nice and thin. The mining golems are just annoying. And yes, the pattern is "if it helps me against the AI even occasionally, it stays".

Didn't there used to be three flavors of Roaming Enclaves?  I could've sworn there were AI-ally, enemy-to-all, and player-ally at some point, and at least occasionally I used to have one of them take up residence in my system and not attack me, only the AI ships that entered the system.  They were actually kind of fun to have around when they were like that, because they weren't always guaranteed to be misery-inducing every single time they showed up.  When I noticed that seemed to have stopped happening, I stopped ever playing with them enabled.

Yea, there were player-ally ones, but folks kept complaining that they were behaving in a stupid/suicidal manner.  I tried about 3 different overhauls and it made them better, but the rate of complaining remained constant, so the ally enclaves took the hint and stopped coming 'round ;)

I have some ideas for a more sensible behavior pattern, just not the time to deal with it right now.

And this is why we can't have nice things.  :P

On a more serious note, the current "minor faction will assist attacks or attack planets with >=100  ships freed" logic seems pretty decent for them too. Yea, not optimal, but at least not suicidal. Maybe that + the BP minimum to attack that you were adjusting before you took them out?
