Do modules interact in any way with starship health? Or are they more like subsidiary units that happen to be attached.

They are 100% subsidiary. Really they are just separate ships that are attached on top of it.

Yea basically one afternoon I took:
- a light starship
- a couple basic turret MkIs
- a welding torch
And the rest is history
