Reprisal and Exotic
« on: May 01, 2014, 03:30:41 pm »
I'm doing a game against Exotic/Exotic right now, and don't have any adjacent warp gates. The Exos get sent straight at my command station, but reprisal waves are doing the
# of ships to ? ? ? in whatever time
thing. Is this intentional, or should Exotic and Vicious Exotic send their reprisals as Exos?
If it is intentional, their lobby description needs to be changed to reflect this.

I believe this is your issue right here.  Where are waves supposed to arrive from if there are no warp gates adjacent to your controlled systems?

He doesn't have any adjacent warp gates because he's up against two Exotic AIs.  Exos spawn at an AI warp gate, not at a human planet adjacent to an AI warp gate.  Killing all the adjacent warp gates forces them to spawn farther away.  They'll still zerg in and die, but cross-planet waves will turn into threat and accumulate until they get dangerous.

Salvage reprisal waves don't get the special AI-type specific freebies added to them that AI types can add (like how Spire Hammer adds capital ships).  They basically act like Vanilla waves.

Do non-wave-sending AI types like Turtle get reprisal waves?  It would be very disconcerting to set up your defenses under the assumption that the AI doesn't send waves, and then suddenly lose a fleet and have a reprisal wave show up when your defenses aren't geared toward waves.

Probably.  The whole point is to put some resources back in the player's hands.

In this case, though, the reprisals are just converting directly into threat.  If he takes a fleet and wipes them out before they build up enough to attack, he isn't getting salvage from them anyway.

It was especially unnerving when the reprisal waves wouldn't even show up in scouted AI territory. I think they were spawning on the Homeworlds or something.
