A simple server listing might happen in August, when we switch to Unity 3D, but I'm not sure.  Otherwise it will be whenever Impulse Reactor v2 supports those features, which will likely be early next year.  Most people don't have terribly much trouble with this, and things like Hamachi make it super simple.  I'm sorry for your frustration, but there's not a way for us to rush this.

1) get someone you know to host
2) ask him for his IP
3) select 'Join IP'
4) type in his IP
5)  ??
6) game

Are you getting actual networking errors or is it just complex to use? Are you using the official version (3.060) or the prerelease version (3.115) or something else?

If you drop by IRC or Steam group chat, I'd be happy to help you with your connection issues. If I'm not around, then perhaps another user there will be around and willing to help you troubleshoot.

Problems establishing a connecting with other users in AI War are usually related to the following:

-The host does not have his port forwarded properly (the host needs to forward on UDP. Port 32320, by default). There is a lot of information about this at portforward.com. This is the most common issue.
-The game is being blocked by the client's or host's firewall or antivirus. Even if you think it's not the case, try disabling these while troubleshooting to ensure they're not at fault. This is a really common problem.
-The host has mistakenly given his local network IP rather than internet IP. Use a site such as whatismyip.com to find your IP.
-Not all users are on the same version of the game.
-Not all users are using the same port. Make sure that everyone has the same port number listed in settings (32320 by default).

Programs like Hamachi and Comodo can help you get around connection problems and situations where you don't have the ability to configure your network properly, but if you can get the game to work without these programs, that's probably ideal.

Just remembered to bring this up:

Not urgent or anything, but whenever I connect with my coop partenr via the ip address method, I have to try twice. It tells me it failed, but always works on attempt number two. Haven't tried this with anything after 3.060 yet though, so may have been solved. It doesn't bother me, but thought you might like to know.

Yeah, that one's been known for quite a while and is still present, unfortunately. We aren't really sure why it's happening. With any luck, it'll disappear during a planned overhaul in the not-too-distant future. For those curious, the details for that are that the first connection attempt when you start the game may fail due to this bug, but all attempts after that one will work fine (assuming you don't have any network problems). You can usually tell if an attempt failed because of this because it will fail significantly faster than it would due to other issues.

Thanks for reporting it, though! These are helpful if only to make more users aware of the problem or to try to get us more on the ball with fixes. ;)
