Another one who first saw it on the Rock Paper Shotgun blog here.

Ended up buying the base through Steam and the expansion direct from Arcen.

How so?  This isn't exactly surprising data to me, although it is interesting.  Mainly it's interesting to see how people who frequent the forums came to the game, because I already have a pretty good idea of how players in general came to the game in rough proportions, etc.

If i may, "most" came (even though it says not even half) from a sale, i know you said before it doesn't matter if we buy it at a sale or not, but it's kinda funny to laugh at human nature of getting deals.

Another RockPaperShotgun reader here. Marked it down on my "to play" list after reading their (sadly aborted) let's play. It took a while to make it to the top of the list, though!

Sure, but this isn't news to me, I know at what prices people buy the game as the daily sales reports come in, etc, though. People view it as a lot less risky to buy on sale, so with a game like ai war (complex and somewhat intimidating) that makes sense. Most of the rts game I have bought have been after at least one expansion was out when the base game was then often on discount, etc. It will be interesting to me to see what halons with Tidalis and how that fares differently, but I'm in no way unhappy with how ai war has managed things.

Regarding sales, especially on steam, it is in my expereience that almost all games there sooner or later go on sale. So its a pretty good bet to go on a shopping frenzy everytime its a sale and stock up for some time ;).

Just recenlty I got Mass Effect for like 4 euro, never tired it before but figured 4 euro is little risk ;)

Not suprising to me really. But it is interesting that steam makes for over 50% of the votes. Steam is really taking off in that repect, and I find myself using it more frequently as well.

I heard about AI War from Co-optimus.  I've directly gotten 1 other person into the game, and he has gotten about 4 others into the game.

Very cool, that's one of my favorite sites. And thanks so much for spreading the word! That is such a super help to us.

50 percent or more off is a certain buy from me, at least for a game within 3-4 years. and at least i heard of it, or at least i look at it and it's good and it got decent reviews and the genre is cool

looking for demo on steam dam it well worth it
AI War - even the smallest units can make all the difference no matter how weak they are still quite capable of taking the hits. if it can Kill and receive damage then it worth its time other wise if it cant kill and cant take the damage for the higher surviving ships then it is worthless.
