So it's after a new expansion so my wife and friend and I picked up AI War again. As usual, having fun with the new options, had a bit of a surprise with the new superterminal too. I'd never had to send in emergency cloaked ships to kill it before.
But the thing that stuck out on me on our current game is powerslavers in the hands of the AI. It was apparently their first/original ship unlock, so we get waves / SF(?) balls of hundreds of powerslavers sometimes at AIP 180-200. I think even at 100 AIP we were getting a lot. If they hit the planets this is largely okay because they can't eat turrets, but they can devour 1000 ships in what seems like seconds and this is really rather irritating. You blow one with the starships you have left to get some ships back and they immediately disappear basically as they render.
I had thought I remembered that there was some logic put in the past to make sure that the AIs wouldn't just spam Maws like crazy to avoid similar kinds of scenarios. Am I crazy? If I'm not, maybe this should exist for powerslavers too.
It's not a gamebreaker for us because we have tons of turrets for defense and a good economy to replace our ships but I'm continually hearing 'can you come rescue my fleet?' from my wife and or I'll look at my map and see my captured fleet 8 hops into enemy terrory. Sadly the design backup is very far away to corrupt it.
