Nukes and EMPs vs the new Carriers
« on: August 14, 2014, 10:30:30 am »
How do Nukes work vs the new Carriers? Would the nuke destroy all non nuke immune ships inside the carrier? Would it destroy the Carrier and unload the nuke immune ships? Or would it only destroy "the next" ship.. the one whose health you can see when you mouse over the Carrier?

What about EMPs.. would the EMP disable all non EMP immune ships inside the Carrier reducing the Carrier's DPS for the duration of the EMP? Or would it only disable "the next" ship if it's not immune to EMP.

I don't remember if Carriers are immune to Nukes or EMPs..

Iirc the MkV carrier is nuke-immune, and all carriers are only partially affected by emps (it stops their movement and their firing, but not their unloading; I think).

But lower-mark carriers can be nuked and, iirc, it will destroy the carrier and anything inside the carrier that was not nuke immune.

Someone may have more recent experience with this than I do, though.  Much of the above was changed (sometimes multiple times) since 7.0.

Confirmed.

Though I disapprove of the partial emp thing. I think it should be properly paralyzed, meaning no unloading.

That'd be tricky, as the unloading can actually be triggered by the AI thread even while the game is paused, and if it rejected an unload it wouldn't be delayed, it just wouldn't happen.  Architecture which should change, I'll agree, but for now must be reckoned with.

Could you pass the paralysis onto the contents, the same way you pass the nuclear effect (death?).

Not in the same way; bear in mind the ships inside carriers don't exist except as "I have x of type y" (the ships inside transports do exist as full objects).  But perhaps on deployment I could add a check where, when actually creating the "newly deployed" ship, it copies the paralysis time from the carrier to the new ships.

For that matter, just having all the newly deployed ships be paralyzed for at least 1 second (regardless) probably wouldn't be unwelcome.

Though in either case they wouldn't start fanning out until the paralysis ended, leading to some pretty big super-stacks.

It's sort of fair, though - human transports can unload while EMPed, even though they can't move.
