This is intended for any ship, they all do it. This is primarily because the granularity of angle calculations is too low below a certain distance threshold, and so you wind up with a really incorrect rotation about half the time. That was very noticeable, partly also because it caused a huge amount of jitter to the ship, but you're only the second person to comment on the "maneuvering thrusters," so I think it's safe to say it's comparably less of an issue (and somewhat thematically sound, anyway).
