ZPG Trader/Capture

At present can you buy a Zenith Power Generator from the Zenith Trader if you have already captured one on an AI world?

I believe this depends on the cap for ZPGs, which is in turn determined by the number of homeworlds. Capturing them, I believe, can get you greater than the cap, but buying cannot.

Isn't that a bit... odd?

I mean, if one wanted to build one's maximum allowance of one per homeworld but had already captured the ZPG ship cap or more, couldn't one simply relinquish the world(s) with captured ZPG(s), build up to the cap, then reclaim said world(s)?

Of course you could, but you'd have to rebuild the ZPG, since even if you do not own the world, you own the structures on it.

I just buy one from the trader early if I see another ZPG nearby that I can cap and hold

Gotcha. Well that answers that!

I wish they were separate from the usual caps; it's a bit silly, if you ask me, but it's very minor.
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

I usually stick one each of the high end defensive stuff the zenith trader has(not ions except for maybe a mark II)  on my homeworld as soon as it pops out of the wormhole leaving the rest for my eventual chokes. Then you just put it all into low power mode until you have some spare materials to funnel into them. Make sure you kill the border ai wave gates asap though as the zpg earns you an instant 3x wave size even if unbuilt and in low power mode.
