two questions about starting bonus ships and UI
« on: June 29, 2010, 03:42:49 pm »
I searched the Wiki but didn't see anything on this:

1. When you seed a map, you'll get several starting locations each with its own bonus ship. Do the remaining ships you didn't choose have any bearing on what ships the AI will be using, or what you'll unlock through capturing Advanced Research Stations? Or is it totally random?

2. I'm not sure how to be reading the ship damage tooltips. What do the numbers and percents in the "strong against" and "weak against" sections actually mean?

To your questions:

1. Nope, it doesn't affect the AI at all.  But yes, it affects what you can later unlock, in that you can't be given something you already have. ;)  In multiplayer, an unlock from an ARS will always be something that no-one on your team has.

Hope that helps!

Oh ok, guess I didn't look at the wiki carefully enough.

Another question: Say you like the map layout but don't want any of the starting bonus ships. Is it possible to reroll just the ship choices?

No worries.

And nope, you have to keep re-rolling the entire map if you don't like the bonus ships.  For why: http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Design_Complexity#Why_Does_The_Game_Force_Variety_On_The_Player.3F

it some what affect the position of some items + what accutaly thier as i some times seen when i told X400 before in steam fourms about geting seed maps for core fabs that i prefer. well the position of what you choice might have an small effect depending on what connecting to it. i havent seen any planet that 1 hop away have an core fabictor. or anything special. is this one of the features or can it happen having 1 golm next to the home planet. so choicing planets with less connecting worm holes thier is less likely chances of having things completly change if thier isnt anything of value when you go solo then decide to go co op well then decide to stop minimal damage by selecting minimal connects. also ai type changes some of the ships types(all things) thus if you swap the ai type from the bottom ai to the top and vice versa you get an similar but also tottaly differnt map setting up. summury

1.seed defintly changes what you get
2. position seriously affect what around you but not much not content but pos. unless it some insane connect nodes. like 7 then more things be bunched this is made on the asumption that the planet you are doing this on is minimal of 30 anything higher is not much differnce as it all have the same content. but anything smaller then this seriously affect everything eg 10
3.the ai type the special buildings ecter. if you keep the blue ai the same and decide to have gra driller ai instead of sledge hammer it wont do much to the blue ai pos or content. unless it serious as it could change an planet ownership but i havent encounter it yet.
AI War - even the smallest units can make all the difference no matter how weak they are still quite capable of taking the hits. if it can Kill and receive damage then it worth its time other wise if it cant kill and cant take the damage for the higher surviving ships then it is worthless.
