Does the CPA guard post's CPA Attack also have something in common with the regular CPA attacks? In other words, if I waited until a CPA wave from the AI hit, would that make the new CPA wave less fierce? I'm trying to examine my options here.

I can not confirm from personal experiance but I believe that is true.

Triggering a CPA guard post after a normal CPA would be a tiny CPA as far as I know.

Well one of the AI homeworlds in my current game has a CPA guard post and TWO raid engine guard posts, so that should be interesting.  Not to mention a co-processor - and I've already taken out the other three.

Wingflier, you might have one last hope.  I can't confirm this yet, but I remember reading in a past post that CPA guard posts - unlike raid engine guard posts - will NOT trigger if there is just a single military unit in the system.  If that's true, then at 6 million hit points, it *might* be possible to take it out with a lone Penetrator, Ram, or golem without triggering it.  You could potentially use transports or scout starships or whatever as decoys: lacking guns, I *think* the AI won't count them as military units.

I guess your other path to victory would be to take advantage of the fact you don't actually have to "survive" the CPA to win the game - only take out the (second) AI homeworld before losing your own.

I was thinking about that.  Maybe if I take out the other Homeworld first, then wait for the naturally spawning CPA, fend that off, then send in a small strikeforce to take out the Core Raid Post.  After the Raid Post dies, I send an interplanetary nuclear missile to clear out as much of the counter-attack as I can, while also hitting the homeworld in the process - at this point the AIP raise won't matter because it's a last ditch effort anyway.

I clean up the remainder of the local CPA attack with my main force, then base race the AI to victory.

It's a long shot but I don't know what other options I have.  Ask Diazo, I'm in a really tricky situation.

Ya, I brute forced it via cheats and spawning golems all over the place.

If I actually had to try a strategy I'm not sure how I'd approach it. The only suggestion I have is to switch and take the other AI homeworld out, it does not have the nasty surprises the one you currently attacking does. Also, both core worlds on the other homeworld have spire archives, taking those two worlds is 18,000 knowledge which would help.

Good point maybe I'll take that and spend it all on defense.

There was at least one other post on dealing with high Mark CPAs, and in order to get 2k+ Mark IV ships, either your AIP is insanely high already, or you've cleared out all the low mark ships in the game and so the only choice for the CPA is higher Mark ships.

K looks like this thread and the Mantis issue were solved.

It seems that my ignorance of these new Guard Posts (they must have been added since the last time I played) combined with my incredible bad luck is what caused me so much concern.

1. I had played two 10 hour games prior to that, where the first AI Homeworlds attacked also had a Core Raid and CPA Guard Post (what are the chances), causing me to get frustrated and start over the game, upon realizing the force spawned was insurmountable.

2. In my current game, I was facing Zenith Autobomb spam, Spire Rams, and Gravity Drains, plus an uncanny number of EMP Guardians as well - A pretty nasty combination of units to be honest, especially when included in waves of over 2,000 MK3 and 4 units.  This is what made it seem so overpowered.

3. I didn't realize that the Core Raid and CPA Guard Posts were random (like I said, I had never seen them before, and since I had seen them in 3 different games, I just assumed they seeded on every Homeworld).  Upon further inspection, I understood that 1 Homeworld is devoid of this threat (*facepalm*).

4. I didn't know that the second time you trigger the CPA Guard Post, it sends practically nothing at you - because I had never survived the first wave lol.

So all of those factors combined made something seem extremely wrong, but now that I understand it a little better it's been very easy to handle.  I realized I can just turtle into my base + chokepoints and send in a teleporting unit across the map to ignite the CPA.  30 minutes of defending later I'm in the clear.

Thanks for your help guys.

Diazo, I simply must know:  Who is responsible for this wiki page?

Zhamad did pretty much the entire Fleet Ships section, I started the Starships section but Real Life sidetracked me.

That page is next on my to do list to finish off, but I get possession of my new house June 1st so things are moving slow on the Wiki front.

edit: Make that starships and turrets are done.
