Questions and Comments
« on: August 07, 2011, 12:15:06 am »
Hi,

I would like to say thank you and congratulations to Arcen Games for creating and supporting a fantastic game in AI War. The game has a lot of depth and challenge. The forums and wiki are a wealth of knowledge. The whole package feels very refined and well done. Here are some comments and questions that I have:

- In the descriptions of all the missiles it says they will detonate if the enemy destroys them. This doesn't happen. They just get destroyed while incurring the AI Progress penalty.

- What do the numbers that show up by the selected ship names represent? This was added in one of the 5.?? betas.

- If I want to capture a planet with a Dyson Sphere on it, what are the best options to defend against it?

1: Was it destroyed by a Warhead interceptor? These do not cause damage, but, despite their tooltip, do increase AI Progress.

2: That is their Mark Level. Mk. V is the highest. (I assume you mean the roman numeral.)

3: It depends on what you need it for. If you need a golem or an ARS or something, then you can scrap the command station after repair/capture and then it will resume being friendly.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

I'm not sure. I'll have to check. Do Warhead Interceptors shoot a projectile or will the warhead just get destroyed when it enters the system?

2: That is their Mark Level. Mk. V is the highest. (I assume you mean the roman numeral.)

Not that. I'm referring to the two percentage numbers beside the name, like this: Bomber II 100%/100%

3: It depends on what you need it for. If you need a golem or an ARS or something, then you can scrap the command station after repair/capture and then it will resume being friendly.

In my current game there's a mkIV factory on the planet with the Dyson Sphere. I don't think I can win the game without it.

That number represents health. I believe it shows the health of the most damaged selected ship of that type and the health of the least damaged one.

You may find another mkIV factory elsewhere but if not, I would bring a fairly strong force, build a command station and instantly scrap it. The dyson sphere will produce a few hostile gatlings in this time but won't produce anymore hostile ones after your command station is destroyed, so you just have to kill those gatlings. You will capture the factory by building the command station and it will remain yours after your command station is destroyed.

Ah, I thought it would only remain mine if I had a command station. This is good to know.  :)

I think the two numbers are ship health and engine health. I don't see then on my game, so you might have toggled some option.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

And I thought the numbers were Most damaged ship's health / Average health over the selection.

Other way around, the first number is the average health of ships, and the second number is the lowest health.

Just tested this. They were getting destroyed by a Warhead Interceptor.

To avoid making my own thread and cluttering up the front with tons of "Question/comment threads", I'd like to piggyback some questions on to this.

-  Are cloakers suppose to make escorting a Shard absolutely trivial?

- Do hybrids still build things?  Browsing mantis, I'm led to believe they do not.  If so...what can they build now?

- On the same note, what can the AI get from the Zenith trader?  The wiki has a tendency to be outdated on some descriptions, and I'm curious if the list had changed.

Always feel free to start a new topic, it's not exactly like there's a massive flood of topics around here so you don't have to worry about pushing things off the page or whatever. We'll just answer your questions in the first few posts and then derail it into an intricate discussion of street food vendors in Hong Kong.

Anyway, I didn't think cloakers worked with the shard. If they do then that's crazy and Keith will probably want to fix it. Hybrids, I have no idea, someone who enjoys getting stomped more than I do will have to answer that question. And the AI can buy:

    * Ion Cannons Mark I and II
    * Warp Gate
    * Special Forces Command Post
    * Gravitational Turret Mark III
    * Core AI Force Field
    * Astro Train Station
    * Black Hole Machine
    * Orbital Mass Driver
    * Core Warhead Interceptor

...assuming the wiki entry about this is still correct. I love it when they buy black hole machines, so I can then take that world and recycle the black hole machine for massive free resources. :D

In a game I just played, I just escorted the shard with a cloaker.  Sometimes the forces all clump up confused on the shard and results in a 1000 exowave ships hitting me at the same time, but if you keep a fleet in the same system as the shard, they ignore it and head straight for your planets.

As for that list, I know they can't build gravitational turrets anymore.  I've seen them build black hole machines and special forces command posts, but i've never seen a warp gate rebuilt.  Hence why I was curious if that list was updated.

Whoops didn't notice grav turret in the list. Yeah, obviously they can't buy any kind of turrets any more. Guess we'll have to wait for one of the people in the know to stop by and give us the updated information.

Speaking of Hong Kong street food vendors does anyone know if the deep-fried tofu guys on Ching Tak street do deliveries?....

Anyway, i have just confirmed that shards can be cloaked; and a cloaked shard on a world full of your own viral shredders makes an amazing breeding ground, just make sure you have 100k spare energy
