How do you manually download the updates? or better yet how do you make it to where you dont have to give administrative permision to paste files in the program files?

All of the updates are here:  http://www.arcengames.com/updates/
More specifically, beta updates are here: http://www.arcengames.com/updates/AIWar/Beta/

Regarding the administrator permissions, there's no particular way to have that not require admin permissions if you are on Vista or Win7 unless you have disabled UAC completely.  I can make a mode in AI War where it doesn't use UAC in order to apply updates, but bear in mind that if this is the case and admin rights are required by windows, then it will simply fail and you can't install the update.

If anyone has information about cross-planet attacks in 2.600 (see this thread: http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,3013.0.html), that is much appreciated!  And now, I'm off for a bit of sleep before the final push tomorrow.  This is very nearly the final release version, minus the new map types and any last bugfixes that must go in.

I already pre-ordered the expansion.  Looking forward to it's release ;)

I tried the link, I downloaded the beta update but when it finished it had an error, either unknown archive or damaged files

Oh, whoops, I forgot about that.  I have to package them specially for them to be manually downloadable.  Right now I don't have time to do that for these prereleases -- the UAC thing is the same either way at the moment, though.  Only reason for a manual download is if you don't have an Internet connection on the computer with the game on it.

Lol no problem, I figured out how to do it anyways, by tinkering with the game properties, i ran it as administrator. Don't know why it didn't occur to me before, i feel so stupid now lol

Oh -- were you using a version before... I think it was 2.300?  Because the admin thing is no longer a problem after 2.300 or something like that.  I thought you meant the other way, where you wanted it to NOT run as admin for some reason.  At any rate, I added an option for that just in case someone is updating AI War and doesn't have admin rights (and the game is in a place where they can use non-admin rights to update it).

Awesome -- so that was just a really temporary issue in general, then.  Won't be a problem in the future!

Great work on this last major build on Release Eve. It's by far the smoothest yet and everything is really falling into place nicely! I plan on finally writing a detailed review of Fleet Commander on Gamersgate tomorrow as I think I've had a good taste of the core product to make my final deductions and observations. I won't wait as long to write my review for Zenith Remnant as I've had it as it's been unfolding thus far. There is no doubt in my mind that AI War is the most well conceived, thorough, intelligent, and intense game out there for hard core gamers - Indie or otherwise. I happily await the final release to thoroughly dive in head first and splash around in the cosmic plasma for the big win. :)

Thanks very much for the kind words, Shardz -- I hope you enjoy it even more once you get into it better with the official releases.  And, thanks for your help with reporting bugs!

Incidentally, a new version is now out:  http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,3066.msg19308.html#msg19308

Yea, I do have those.  And I just found it inconvenient to only see the huge space dock icon and I can see nothing else. :-

If it is only me with this in mind, of course, please disregard my complaint.

I have to say I'm very impressed with a lot of the improvements and balances that have been done since 2.0.  I do really like the new graphics, although I agree with a few posters regarding ship perspective when they are rotated (though I have not seen them, myself).

The "cold storage" system seems to provide a definite improvement.  Our game ran smoother than it has in a good long while (read: 2-3 months), although whatever issue resulted in the overproduction of AI ships http://arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,3076.0.html undid all of the work we managed to do over the holidays.  We had managed to knock the AI from 140,000 ships down to 119,000 over about 20 hours of gameplay -- about 1 hour game time, if that -- but that was all undone over the course of 45 minutes (game time) tonight.

Unfortunately, we may have to revert to 2.0 with our previous saved game due to the AI growth issue.

Many thanks, Kal -- glad you're liking the improvements.  And don't worry, we won't be rotating ships that have a perspective that would look wrong with that.  The golems are all top-down or close to that (Devourer is perhaps one exception, but it is round enough not to look very unusual); anyway, we're keeping an eye to that.

Also, glad that the bug that was fixed will let you keep playing with the new version and its various speed improvements.  Should run even better than tonight once it isn't constantly streaming extra ships into the game!
