Yea, a 2000+ ship cap would lead to that kind of thing.  But the reason they have a normal ship cap instead of, say, Laser Gatlings is that they are not intended to be swarms-of-numbers when used by the human, but rather to be useful at the current cap, for a few minutes.  The regeneration chambers are just to augment that  by allowing you to keep a sort of standing force.

Regen chamber + Leech Starship + AI/Minor faction Neinzul ships = fun :)

Might not be the most effective method og getting forces, but at least it works to a degree :)

Good idea :)  But I'm going to have to make all those non-reclaimable, I thought I already had.  Not that the strategy is OP or whatever, it's just that those are super-sepcialized unit definitions that could cause all manner of technical issues if liberated from their specific role ;)

Just started my first game with hybrid hives, can I just say how freaking awesome those things are? Having played a bit I had a look at the wiki page to see what was going on "under the hood" and I have to say I'm deeply impressed, both by their present form and the eventual plans for them.  Seriously, if this was the only thing you'd added in CoN it would be worth $4 all by itself to my mind. A dynamic third party opponent really spices things up, especially with the regular game balance tuned a bit too easy (IMO) at the moment.

And yea, we've got a fair bit of rebalancing to do once the Unity-port-stuff settles down, both for the base game and the CoN stuff.  But I think we can do that very well, once we can focus on it :)

It will be announced in these forums, for sure.  And probably in the news "blog"-type thing.  I doubt you'll miss it :)

The game is playable at this point, though a few interface things are missing (scrap-ships doesn't work yet since I hadn't done the confirmation screen for it, etc).  Chris is concerned about a lot of new people finding the first beta (which is possible, with there being a mac version and all that), so he wants to get stuff working so that a new player won't be totally lost.

Naturally, whenever we give a target date we miss it, I think that's a physical law or something.  But we really want it out this week.

So here's a question: I know save games are normally always forwards compatible, but does that hold true for the Unity switch? Surely not?

Oh it will definitely hold true with the Unity switch.  One of the main saves I use for testing is from sometime in 2009.
