First, I know that in aar there are many saves players have suggested that you can play with, or just map numbers for extremely cool maps, but i do think that having an official map and official settings to play with would be cool. and official settings.
(that was the tldr part
)
First, one map that can be said as "official" is the tutorial map as everybody that played the medium level tutorial has played that map, a very fun 10 planet map with all you need to know things. I suggest that for 20 planets, or 80 planets and such someone find or make a map and put it in the map generator that's extremely fine tuned ( I love the map generator, but somehow, i find it hard to believe that out of the 1 billion billion * space tug health number of maps every single one of them is so balanced that any planet you start with is almost tacticaly the same. I also know that perhaps easier or harder places will encourage people to learn different scenarios.
My suggestion? Perhaps someone can again, find or make a map where your starting unit, and tactical position is very cool. and make it different for 2 players or 8 players so that on 1 player there are only like 4 places to start out with.
I know, a flaw in this, starting maps don't matter and the map generator is fine tuned that you don't find a zenith power generator 1 hop from your home planet (i do believe that it happened before
) But there are many things we can come out of this instead of not doing it.
1. Putting an official map will make people discuss about it more often than the cool aar section
2. Putting an official map will make a new tutorial for 80 planets ( not really needed but cool)
3. Putting an official map will make an "official strategy aar to ai war for a "typical galaxy""
4. Putting an official map will ensure that no one really exploit that specific galaxy like super cool 1 way planet scenarios
that will bring us back to official settings. Mostly this is because for steam achievments, cool tutorial saves and videos worth bragging about. and great for multiplayer competition for speed runs.
Basically, you use the official settings with no ai modifiers though there can be a section for ai modifiers "offical" game. As i said, this will ensure that people don't get ridiculously large points in one game and can be used for bragging as bragging or scoreboards will (but is not yet) be important when multiplayer or stats and such comes out. Just like in aar you can see people bragging about 80 planets no modifiers lvl 10 games and all.
