targeting certain place on planet

I often see that if i want to send my lighting warhead to blow something up on a scouted planet, i have to wait till it goes through to wormhole, LOOK at the planet it went, CONTROL it again,  why can't we target where we want our ships to go directly, or can we do that already, or is rally posts the solution and doing that would be game breaking?
