well i cheated for this formation and for testing purposes i set the AI to level 1 so it wouldnt attack at all. i might enable the avenger and kill a homeworld. the only issue i can see is that many units in combat would take a fatal toll on my system.

Yea, if I did that I'd probably take the case side off and point a few external fans straight at the cpu and ram ;)

iv already got 3 230mm fans blowing into the case. I'm just worried cause I'm getting about 5 fps with this many units. so if they were to all open fire the game would probably lock up.

Yeah, that's about 3x as many as I've ever seen all mobile at once on the same planet (and really, above 7k units at once is not particular "normal use"). So it's doing pretty good, all things considered, there. :)

i continued building ships and i have reached a high of 53,100 military ships. iv placed a mkI forcefield next to the square of units for size comparison.

if anyone thinks they have a system strong enough to handle this many units, take a look at the save posted.

whats the record for units in 1 system anyways? :P

Now I know why the game lagged so much when issuing commands to groups that big.

Self Defense.

Edit: are you still getting fps, or has it switched to spf ?

Make any difference?

wow fps zoomed in and out doubled from before. didn't realize engies took that much cpu, but i guess 1500 engies is quite alot.

Yea, basically several times a second they check every single allied ship in the system to see if they can assist it.  20*7000=notSoBad.  1500*53000=unfriendly.

It's the sort of thing we *could* throttle like autotargeting, or use a more rollup-based approach to finding assistable ships, but in non-cheat cases it would seem unnecessary.

Edit: btw, with the engies off and tabbed out to the galaxy map I get about 80ms/cycle, which is about half the target framerate.

Wow, that is insane.  I think the record for the most ships total in one system was previously in the 20k range, not more than 30k surely.  From what I have been aware of, anyway.  This is definitely a new high water mark by far.

Well, that's with so many cheats that I think the AI quit in disgust to go write some ranting posts about opponents not having any rules.

Hehe.  I guess that would make AI War about the only game where it is going in that direction, rather than the other way around.
