Finding Capturables on an AI Planet
« on: February 27, 2010, 03:38:53 pm »
When attacking an AI planet with a valuable capturable, (for example, a Core Grenade Launcher Fabricator), I have the hardest time trying to actually figure out where it is in the system. This is important because many of these capturables, I see them on the scouted map but don't actually know what they do until I hover my mouse over them directly and read the tooltip.

Is there a way to see the tooltip after just scouting them, without sending ships to the planet again? Or at least, once I have ships on the planet, how can I easily find special buildings like this? Right now I zoom in on every guard post and sizable group of ships, and manually look around for something out of place. It often takes a couple of minutes to find, and it feels like a tedious waste of time. Is there an easier way that I'm missing?

Does it show up in the planetary summary on the right sidebar? You can right click it's box in that summary to center the view on it.  Or is that not working?

I think you need a scout in-system to get the enemy units to show on the summary, though.

Ah - I didn't try bringing scouts on my raid. I've heard people say to do that before, but the reason why I needed to do it didn't connect  :)

If you don't have scouts just pause the game and look around.  You can still find it. :)  It sounds like you already know this though?

And if you see an icon you don't know on the galaxy map, you can use the f1 feature to cycle throgh the various marks of ships to find the icon and see it's full description, etc. Useful if you are not presently at the planet and want to know if a capturable is worthwhile.

I didn't know about the F1 feature - that's really cool!

Thanks for the helpful replies everyone. Bringing scouts does indeed work. I assume that's what the Scout Starship is for.
