exo-galaxy wormholes
« on: February 08, 2010, 10:39:45 pm »
Just want some information about exo-galaxy wormholes.

To start with I began a game with two difficulty 10 AIs just to see how long I'd last - admittedly I did provide myself with a modest handicap. So the world loaded and I decided to set up some defenses at the wormholes since I expected to be an unwanted guest in their neighborhood. I glanced at my minimap and saw a flashing red wormhole, being a newbie my first thought was "hmm, that's odd.. figured everything was neutral at the beginning."

However, upon further inspection I realized that it was not in fact a typical wormhole but an exo-galaxy wormhole. Extremely close to my home command station to boot. In truth I've only finished one full game and am about mid-game in a coop one so my knowledge is very limited. I was under the impression these things were always near the AI home world. Obviously this is not the case but it still seems like a harsh start to a game.

I did try to search the wiki but didn't find anything directly related to it.

A curious beginner,

Awod.

The presence of an exo-galaxy wormhole in your home system implies that you're up against a Backdoor Hacker AI type.

Backdoor Hackers have an exo-galaxy wormhole in each player's home system, which they can launch waves through. There's no way of preventing the AI from using the exo-galaxy wormhole to send waves against your planet, so you'll need to have adequate defenses in place for the duration of the game.

Good luck!

No problem! You're actually not the first player to ask about this, so I've added the information under the defense category on the wiki - http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War:Fleet_Command#Defense

There’s always one exo-galaxy wormhole on each AI homeworld, so you’ll always face two. If you face Backdoor Hackers then you’ll find an exo-galaxy wormhole per hacker on each of your starting planets.

If you’re feeling insane, try the following: Start with the maximum number of player controlled planets (I think 8?) vs. 2 backdoor hackers.
