If you have very strong defenses the AI will hold off attacking. This means that waves and cross-planet attacks do not "finish" their assaults, but retreat and remain 'active". If this happenss often, the active ships will eventually be 10.000 or more.

However, once the number of "active" ships crosses a threshold, the AI will simply come for you. It will not be a coordinated assault.

Yet.

I want to know. Do these new siege breaking attacks by the AI consist of cross-planet attacks, or some other mechanism of attack?

Oh, sorry -- I should have been more clear.  Nothing fancy there.  Just what was discussed here, which you probably did not see:   The AI has a big yellow streak!

Basically, when the AI threat outnumbers your entire fleet, it goes for broke.  Before, if the little parts of the fleet could not break through anywhere, they would just keep patrolling and so Haagenti was getting 10k+ threat.  This would not affect most players at all, since you have to be really super turtled up for that to work.
