The Latest prerelease is now out: http://www.arcengames.com/share/AIWar1201C.zip

That version is an upgrade from version 1.013, so you have to already have 1.013 (or greater) installed. Just unzip it into your game folder (usually C:\Program Files\Arcen Games\AI War\ unless you specified something else). Please make sure that your unzip process keeps the folder structure from the zip file, rather than just unpacking all of the files into the base target directory.

Why is this now 1.201 instead of 1.014?  Well, this release is just so huge that I felt it needed to be differentiated with a more major version number shift.  People are going to remember this as the release where the economy became flow-based and got more robust, where the AI tactics became way more intelligent in many ways, and where a ton of interface and graphical improvements came into play, amongst other rebalancing and over a dozen new ship types.  It's a whole new game from 1.013 in some respects when it comes to the advanced strategy, so this is something I felt was important to make really clear with the numbering.

What's new since 1.201B:
(Cumulative release notes since 1.013 are attached at the bottom)

-------------------

-It is now possible to select a nebula style on the Graphics tab of the settings screen.

-When net energy is below 2000, the game now automatically shows the amount of energy currently being drawn by each ship that is drawing 500 or more energy as a popup over the ships.  This makes it easy for players to decide what ships to turn off.

-It is no longer put ships that are producing energy into low power mode that would make the energy balance negative (or more negative).

-It is no longer possible to bring ships out of low-power mode if their energy use would make the energy balance negative (or more negative).

-The command stations now produce a small bit of energy (instead of taking energy), but now also produce a bit less metal and crystal.

-The metal and crystal production of Mark III command stations have been severely reduced (from 80 each to 48), as they were imbalancing in the new economy.

CHANGES FROM PAST PRERELEASES
--------------

-Previoulsy, mobile builders could be paused but that pause button overlapped the econ button.  Fixed so that mobile builders can no longer be paused.

-The background starfield no longer changes as players are flipping around in the menus.

404! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Anyway, in relation to the previous topics, I quite like the new nebulae, but having an option to select what style you want like you said would definietly me cool. And I also agree with the statements that you shouldn't be allowed to go into negative energy. That doesn't even make sense. How can you owe energy? How can you be in electric debt? When the power hits 0, things should just stop working right there. You shouldn't be able to turn ships back on from low power mode when there isn't enough power to support them either.

EDIT: And of course, looking at the change log, you fixed all that  ::) Love to test it out but you know, Its 404'd!

I realized that this version had nearly-opaque forcefields based on something I am testing with it, so I was uploading a new version to fix it.  So the new version is good, and is not 404.  If anyone else had already downloaded it and has opaque force fields, just download it again -- sorry about that!

For the negative energy, I think that actually is something that is possible, but only through the destruction of some of the power producers.  It actually does make some sense, insofar as you get "brownouts" in real life power grids when the draw is larger than the production.  But that's not something the players should be able to cause in any way other than losing reactors, I very much agree.

That makes a lot more sense than before, lol. I'm about to try out a game now and see how I like it.

I tried to download this 3 times now (right now) and i still have opaque forcefields and nebulas.. maybe you can change the filename? Because i think the host has the file pre-cached now and it doesn't update..

Maybe the issue is on my end.. but for some reason i don't seem to be able to get the updated file ;p

This is what we call a 'slow week'. I'm actually hardly joking at all. :)

Yeah...it's all fun and games, until there is the odd day that there is no patch. And then the withdrawal symptoms begin...
