Prerelease 1.014O (Threat Level Display, bugfixes)
« on: August 21, 2009, 06:08:36 pm »
The Latest prerelease is now out: http://www.arcengames.com/share/AIWar1014O.zip

That version is an upgrade from version 1.013, so you have to already have 1.013 (or greater) installed. Just unzip it into your game folder (usually C:\Program Files\Arcen Games\AI War\ unless you specified something else). Please make sure that your unzip process keeps the folder structure from the zip file, rather than just unpacking all of the files into the base target directory.

What's new since 1.014N:
(Cumulative release notes since 1.013 are attached at the bottom)

-------------------

-The AI Progress and energy displays are now shown in two lines instead of one for the sake of horizontal compactness, and the minimap has been moved down a few pixels.  This makes room for a new Threat Level display.

-There is a new Threat Level display in the top right corner of the screen (or to the right of the AI Progress, anyway, for those with widescreen monitors).  From left to right, this shows:  Total Planets Under Attack out of Total Planets held (which makes it easy to see when planets are lost); Total Number of AI ships attacking player planets; Total Number of all AI ships that are "free" and threatening the human players, but which are not on player planets are present; Total number of all AI ships in upcoming waves and cross-planet attacks.
-With all of these new additions -- which are visible on the galaxy map as well as the planetary view -- it is easy for players to get a quick overview of how much the AI is threatening them or damaging them.
-These numbers are color-coded as follows: for the big planet numbers, it shows green if no ships or brown if any ships are attacking; for all the others they show green if 0, they show brown if less than 200, they show red if less than 1000, and they show flashing red if more than 1000.
-In multiplayer, these numbers are for the entire team, not just the local player.

CHANGES FROM PAST PRERELEASES
--------------

-Fixed a bug in N where the AI was actually attacking its own command stations at times (whoops!).

-Fixed a bug that was causing the metal and crystal manufactories to throw the total reported net metal/crystal off.

Hmm, does x4000 offer rehab services?  ;D

I must say I like the threat levels, especially since in my current game I am intentionally ticking off as many AI worlds a possible, just to see how long I can last.  Diff 7, Methinks I'll be screwed in a couple of hours.  Why I think this is fun, I have no idea.  :)

I've got to try this sometime. Doing exactly what one shouldn't taking every planet. :D

We're just about to hit 50 of the 100 planets in our game.  38 hours in.  We take every planet.  It's more challenging than rushing, but I don't recommend it on anything beyond Diff 5.  Wait until you have 1500 AI progress.  That's when things will get really interesting for you.

Alas, we've always been and always will be completionists.

AI has 72,000 ships, usually increases by 2000-4000 with each planet we take (and we usually wipe out 3000-6000 ships amidst the planet, raids, and cross-planet attacks during our planetary assault).

I went through the release notes and didn't happen upon anything indicating starships for the AI were capped.  Of course, I could have missed it.  I'd love confirmation as to whether that's the case, as I'd hate to start our game on Monday to find out we're up against 80 starships again.  :D

Interesting take on my suggestion! I can't wait to see this in action...

Cheers!

Would it be possible to add a tooltip to the threat display?  Its a little confusing as to what it represents in game.

Good idea!  I'll be sure to add tooltips for that whole row.

Just checked -- yes, that logic is in there.  You should have many fewer starships in that game. :)

Clicking "Host New Campaign" from the title screen seems to take 20+ seconds to show the galaxy map, settings pane, etc, and freezes the game up enough that windows isn't sure if it's working or not. :)

Quite strange and I can't work out what's causing it.

Is anyone else here having something similar to this?
