Warning 1:  A huge chunk of the innards of the control architecture was rewritten for the prior version.  It is entirely likely there may be bugs relating to this, although only one has been found (and already fixed) so far.

Warning 2:  There are some significant AI shifts in version 1.011A and up, which is likely to make it much harder given the same difficulty level.  So if you are loading older savegames that were close, you might find yourself losing if you are not careful.  Just fair warning!

The Latest prerelease is now out: http://www.arcengames.com/share/AIWar1011H.zip

That version is an upgrade from version 1.010, so you have to already have 1.010 (or greater) installed. Just unzip it into your game folder (usually C:\Program Files\Arcen Games\AI War\ unless you specified something else). Please make sure that your unzip process keeps the folder structure from the zip file, rather than just unpacking all of the files into the base target directory.

What's new since 1.010G:
(Cumulative release notes since 1.010 are attached at the bottom)

-------------------

-Previously, sending thousands of ships through a wormhole all at one time could cause a significant hitch in the game on the computer on which the command was issued.  Fixed.

CHANGES FROM PAST PRERELEASES
--------------

-Fixed a second desync relating to cross-planet attacks.

-Fixed a bug in prior prereleases that was causing strange AI behavior such as reinforcements where there was nothing to reinforce, and AI players acting like a command station was not destroyed.

-Fixed a bug in prior prereleases where issuing waypoint commands was not working.

NEW ART (by Philippe Chabot, Arcen's new artist)
--------------
-Resource icons.
-Minimap wormhole icons.
-Minimap background.

Very impressed with the new minimap. It can be a little tough to see the darker colours against its background but the brighter ones are great.

The gridding is similar to a request in the discussion regarding tactical zoning - with constant access to a gridded view I'm even happier :).

One request - An option to increase the size of the minimap, probably via a toggle key.

Yep, that's on the short-term list already.  Glad you like the new minimap -- the mockups that Phil did are amazing, now it's just time to start turning them into the real game.  As far as some of the darker icons go, hopefully that will be resolved before too long; my method of colorizing sprites is currently diffusion, but I actually need to do some color shifts instead in order to get colors the way that Phil originally designed (which is very visible).

Bug:

I'm playing a game, in which I apparently can't give units. My partner tried to gift me some as well, and that failed too.

You can only give units both of you have access to and which don't go over your unit limits, as far as I know...

So would it work in this situation?

I have parasites, and they took over a tier 3 Tank. I try to give it to my ally, who started with tanks.

Should that work? If not, you may want to revise the giving rules for the starting player with Parasites...

That will work if your buddy has tier 3 tanks unlocked.  He has to have tier 3 tanks specifically, not just tanks in general.  This prevents people from cheating the pop caps and avoiding knowledge expenditures -- for example, if you and I are playing, and you unlock Anti-Armor Mark II and I unlock Raid Starships, then I could just give you Raid Starships and you could give me Anti-Armors, and we'd be cheating the knowledge unlocks and making everything a lot easier.

Parasites let you take yourself over your pop cap, or capture ships that you otherwise could never have, but that ability doesn't transfer to giving infinite captured ships to allies.  Once a ship has been reclaimed by a parasite, it really doesn't keep track of whether it originally came from a parasite or whether it was built by default.  I think that could get more confusing, if you have a mix of fighters that were captured and built, for instance, and there were different gifting rules for some but not others...

Ah... Ok.

That makes sense, the reason why people with Parasites can't have special rules, anyway. The other rules made sense in the first place, I just didn't know they existed ;D.

Thanks for the explaination :P.

Glad it works for you!  No problem. :)

EDIT:  This was a great question, so I made sure to add it to the wiki:  http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_Gifting_Ships

Some of those "unwritten rules" that I never thought about documenting are coming up now with players who are getting into the more advanced aspects, so I'm trying to be good about always documenting those as they do arise.
