Potential CTRL option (to buff enclaves)
« on: July 28, 2012, 01:36:22 pm »
The problem:

I want my enclaves to group move with my starship fleet. I want them to FRD so their produced younlings go flying off to do their thing. But I want them to remain with the fleet at their speed, and I don't want the rest of the fleet to go off and ruin the fleetball.

Idea:

Make it by default any ships produced, whether it be by factory or enclave, start off on FRD.

This would solve my current dilemma.

Can it work?
Life is short. Have fun.

In theory, but isn't that the same result as putting the enclave in FR... oh.  Right, group speed.

Yea, that control could be added, I'll put it on the list.  Not sure when I'll get to it at this rate, but so it goes :)

My enclaves build other stuff as well, and I wouldn't want that to go on FRD, so this proposed toggle wouldn't help me that much.
A drones-only auto-FRD would be closer to what I want, but what I think I actually want is target seek range for drones, similar to melee units.

Yay! *twiddles thumbs*

As for you Minotaar, I know it isn't perfect, but I'm one to ask for simple solutions (in this case, lumping factories and enclaves together) so as to make it easier (and in the process, speed up the implemenation). My enclaves make other things as well, but if they go off to their deaths, its better then not having the option at all.

In other words, I'm making universal blade spawners with the enclaves
Life is short. Have fun.

I could make it apply to drones-only pretty easily.  Making it apply to enclaves only would be somewhat harder, but also doable.  Preferably keeping this to one toggle (until it can be playtested and more feedback generated at least), though :)

Do whatever you like Keith  :)

It is for that reason I try to give a situation, the problem, and a potential solution.

Ultimately I want everything to come out of my enclave to be FRD. If it is lumped with other things, fine. If not, that's fine too.

I don't need it myself, I'm asking whether you want it for just "what's coming out is a drone" or just "what it's coming from is an enclave" or both ;)

*Dances in joy* I was just about to ask for this :) Soo annoying to have all younglings/autobombs/melee stuff being killed off and then being reconstructed and then not going off on a rampage due to group move :( Its fine if you just have the younglings stuff that need to go rampage but if you want to escort the shard its very irritating :P

To make it clear, I want it all to come out if toggled. If you want another option for drones (and maybe younglings and melee too) only (which I'm sure will be popular) that's fine, but I want it all. My playstyle is unique so I understand if it is not perfect, but I think anyone who makes a youngling or drone or melee unit wants wants it to be FRD so they are useful.

I'd be perfectly fine with everything aswell. The stuff that dies is usually the younglings n stuff, if I have a few stray fighters or bombers or stealth battleships *shrug* Not a biggie. Would be nice with the ability to keep them reined in so they stay in the same system as the enclave though, for when you escort shards n stuff.

I don't really have a opinion one way or the other on the control option, but I would greatley support giving drones a moderatley large target seek distance.

A switch in the CTRL menu to change between how it works atm and FRD would (probably) be perfect. Kinda like that "brave scouts" thing or whatever it's called. Which makes scout starships military units.

I'd support this for all units coming from an enclave --- I must say I haven't used one yet but I'd imagine wanting to use them mostly for kamikaze units.  I'm having a bit of trouble imagining how this would work, tho --- supposing I wanted to keep one enclave in the corner producing blade spawners while this was on, would there be any way to keep them off FRD?  Still I suspect you'd rarely want to do something like that and you could turn the option off; I think it would be very useful even without such a workaround.

Oh yes, also a Brave Enclave Starships toggle please! I'm used to holding CTRL all the time by now and even then I lose them constantly.

Enclaves are perfect with Doom Shrooms and Vorticular Cutlasses.
