I wanted to get an idea of what the community thinks of "how things work" in AI war, so that maybe there can be mmore details filled in. Post your idea of how one aspect or feature of unit(s) work, then we can have a big debate over it and add it to a "hall of community lore" so that there can be an official unofficial reference for the community. I'll start.

Dark matter weaponry:
"When dark matter is collected together and compressed to near neutron star levels, it generates a powerful gravity field. Combined with other mechanisms for controlling and propelling dark matter, these gravity fields can rip through a target and foul up all sorts of systems. However: These mechanisms have been adapted into a counter, which forcefully repels all dark matter in the surrounding area. When asked about the possible effect this could have on the expansion of the universe, a scientist declined to comment."

Yea, personally I would like to have a sort of a UFOPedia but for AI War instead of X-Com.  The closeup pictures with stat listings and some flavor text really got me more interested in the details there.  Obviously the idea wouldn't work as-is with AI War as we'd have to distill some statistics and such.

I don't know what Chris thinks about it, but I imagine having the info around here somewhere wouldn't hurt.

I am always cool with fanfic and lore extensions, and sometimes the fanfic becomes the official canon, too.  Part of the reason I set up the community wiki was for stuff like this.

Mhh, Dark Matter .. not only recedes when pushed but does so faster than you pushed. Given that its responsible for the (accelerating!) expansion of the universe it would be like... anti-gravity, except it doesn't just counter gravity it contradicts its very existence, so containing it with gravitational fields would probably be very explosive.

Speaking of this, i wonder why scientists call it Dark Matter. If it were *matter* the universe would not be expanding. Conversely why does it have to be dark matter, just because we can't see it, doesn't mean its there! For all we know the space in between the galaxies might be space ruptures where the laws of physics are non existent and which behaves more like a loose simulation (no drag/attraction forces, only repulsion forces).

Ehm so, i think Dark Matter is a really weird thing to shoot around. ^^ Why not Anti-Matter ;p

Also theres a logical fallacy, dark matter isn't repelled by gravity it REPELS gravity. Which reminds me that scientists still don't know what gravity actually is. Maybe gravity isn't a natural force but a variable constant and the universe has 2 states, and in dark matter gravity works the reverse.

So instead of gravity wells in dark matter it would create gravity bubbles...

Parasites

These innocuous-looking craft fire canisters that penetrate or attach to the hull of the enemy ship, and attempt to do the following:
a) jam the ship's network connection
b) attempt to gain access to the ship's command & control computers.

While a fully-functional ship will usually have appropriate computer security measures in place, said measures tend to deteriorate as the ship receives battle damage. Eventually, the parasite subverts the victim's flight control and weapons circuitry, effectively granting control to the parasite's owner and often killing the pilot (if there is one) in the process.

Large starships and certain other valuable craft generally have "hull sweepers" in place to clear parasite pods off the hull, resulting in little more than paint dents and small hull breaches when parasites are used against those ships.

What your opinion on ships, are they manned or not?


In my lore, the planets are occupied by humans who who trapped by the AI who "protects" them from space.  If anyone tries to leave the planet or venture into space they are attacked.  This doesn't really fit with some of the images in the game, like those planets that are a broken into several pieces.

I figure not because of the fleet sizes in combination with a lack of remaining human personnel, that maybe the ships are auto-managed but not ordered beyond simple maintenance and control orders.

  What about why the Raptor ship looks quite abit like the Klingon Raptor class ship from Star Trek. Were the scientists who designed it trekkies?

 EDIT: Ok checking it ingame again, the mkI, it doesn't look THAT similar, but when I first saw in playing the game I thought it looked like a klingon ship, lol.

"Closest i can figure, the Zenith built these little thin things to be able to replicate (*gestures at side-on diagram of shredder showing a very thin ship with a bulge in the center*). See, every time it crashes into a ship, it slices off a bit of hull material, communications arrays, what have you -- and process it into raw material. Now, it uses this raw material and builds another of it's brethren on it's side which it releases when it's complete. Amazing technology really, now we just have to figure out how it converts hull materials into organic control components..."
