Poll of Shame

I'm new, so for all I know Steam is a recent addition, but I'm gonna go ahead and assume AI Wars has been on it for a while / since the beginning. Also, my bad if the ranges are too high / too low.

Steam has had the game since October 2009, when 2.0 of the game came out.  So, since about 6 months after the start, which is plenty long.

You need a new answer up there, though: "I don't use Steam to play the game."  I think Steam has me down for about 3 hours and 45 minutes of play, thereabouts, because I just play the game outside the Steam interface.

It's been on steam since October '09.  Steam claims I only have 9 hours on it, but that doesn't even cover the game I played on my steam copy.  It had a game-time clock of like 15 hours, and I pause a lot.  Steam clocks are notoriously inaccurate ;)

No need to be embarrassed, we were all new once. Welcome to the forums!

Heh.  And if we want to talk about actual hours playing, I'm probably in the 400-500 range, by my estimate.  If you count testing and coding and such, it's somewhere north of 5,000 hours for me, conservatively.

I have 229 on Steam, but I spend a lot of playtime outside Steam.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

I think last time I checked, Steam was approaching 200 hours, but I don't remember how long ago that was (probably no more recent than the middle of the summer) and don't know how accurate that is.

Also, my bad if the ranges are too high / too low.

I don't care if they're too high or too low.  You get bonus points for using powers of five, just for the "no one ever does that"-ness of it.

my steam says 181 hours, but I've played this game a lot in offline mode (which steam doesn't count) so I think I'm closer to 300-320 hours. Not a pro yet (far from it), but defenitely an experienced player.

hmm... interesting. apparently I needed more granularity in the "a few hundred hours" range :)

and at first I had 0-5, 5-25, 25-100, 100-500, 500+.... but then 25-100 just seemed like an outlier

You can change the options, reset the vote, and have everyone vote again if you want.

Clearly this time we need powers of three instead.  Although I kind of like the ranges of powers of e even more.

I figured as soon as I saw this that the 125+ option would get the bulk of the votes. This is the sort of game that someone either plays for 5 minutes and gives up on, or else they play it for hundreds of hours. Just depends on the type of person.

actually, Steam is not new. It was created, I think in 2009. But with it, when I use steam, mine is worse, they claim I have 6 hours. Just like Keith's, it did not include the game I played in my steam copy.

I probably have played hundreds of hours of AI war by now, but I don't like to launch the game through steam; I get a noticeable performance impact when running it with steamworks for some reason.
