If windows media player can generate visuals from sound; then it should be possible to generate sound from visuals...

It certainly is.  I suppose that's a bit too literal of an answer, but it's the first thing that came to mind and is pretty interesting.  Photosounder (linked from there) expands on the idea a bit.

It's VERY possible. You can rather easily send photos and images as sound over radio (And plenty of people do).
